Her defense of that title started in fine fashion Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>The NYU junior won the women\u2019s 50 freestyle at the NCAA Division III Championships at Greensboro Aquatic Center, twice lowering the Division III mark. Garre went 4:44.90 after having been the fastest qualifier in 4:48.26. Garre had enough to outlast Caymaz, who went 4:46.67 to finish second.<\/p>\n<p>Third was <strong>Penelope Helm<\/strong> of Emory. She had been sixth last year. <strong>Quinn Brown<\/strong> of Denison was fourth up a spot from last year. Kenyon had two A finalists, with freshman <strong>Nora Lee Brown<\/strong> in the top eight. NYU nearly cashed in big time, with <strong>Aanya Wala<\/strong> fifth. He wasn\u2019t the top seed out of prelims but he surged in the final 100 yards, with six swimmers separated by just over a second at the 400-yard mark. Finkel came home in 25.36-24.59 to get in first, two seconds ahead of Williams\u2019 <strong>Ryan Nunez.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lucas Lang,<\/strong> the leader at 400 yards, finished third in 4:24.52. NYU\u2019s <strong>Connor Vincent<\/strong> was fourth, a spot lower than last year. She just about held off Kenyon\u2019s <strong>Jennah Fadely,<\/strong> despite not being at her quickest. Verkleeren went 1:58.73 in prelims, then 1.2 seconds slower at night. That let Fadely clip within .16 seconds in 2:00.09.<\/p>\n<p>The top four all made the A final last year. Fadely was third in 2024. Third in 2025 is <strong>Kate Augustyn<\/strong> of MIT in 2:01.35, up from fifth last year. There was no one matching that turn of speed.<\/p>\n<p>Emory\u2019s <strong>Ava Kennedy<\/strong> finished second in 22.55, followed by Swarthmore\u2019s <strong>Genine Collins<\/strong> in 22.79. MIT had two in the A final, led by <strong>Annika Naveen<\/strong> in 22.89. (Dragojlovic had been third last year.) His teammate <strong>Rowan Fitzsimmons<\/strong> was behind him by a spot again, this time getting bronze. They appeared to be waltzing to the title until NYU\u2019s anchor <strong>Kaley McIntyre<\/strong> hit the water.<\/p>\n<p>MIT\u2019s squad was composed of <strong>Kate Augustyn, Sarah Bernard, Sydney Smith<\/strong> and <strong>Alex Turvey.<\/strong> Augustyn went out in 53.61.<\/p>\n<p>McIntyre made it close, getting NYU within .08 seconds with her anchor split of 47.76.
