{"id":607623,"date":"2025-03-18T19:22:44","date_gmt":"2025-03-19T02:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=607623"},"modified":"2025-03-18T19:22:44","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T02:22:44","slug":"remi-fabiani-ginger-kiefer-named-wac-swimmers-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/remi-fabiani-ginger-kiefer-named-wac-swimmers-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Remi Fabiani, Ginger Kiefer Named WAC Swimmers of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Remi Fabiani, Ginger Kiefer Named WAC Swimmers of the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cal Baptist\u2019s <strong>Remi Fabiani<\/strong> and <strong>Ginger Kiefer<\/strong> of Idaho were named the WAC Swimmers of the Year <a href=\"https:\/\/wacsports.com\/news\/2025\/3\/18\/swd-m-wac-swimming-and-diving-postseason-awards-announced.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were voted on by the coaches in the conference \u2013 nine women\u2019s and six men\u2019s \u2013 and sponsored by Jersey Mike\u2019s and University Credit Union.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Arizona\u2019s <strong>Victoria Knapp<\/strong> was named WAC Women\u2019s Diver of the Year, and her coach <strong>Nikki Kelsey<\/strong> was named Women\u2019s Diving Coach of the Year. New Mexico State\u2019s <strong>Rick Pratt<\/strong> is the women\u2019s coach of the year, and <strong>Beth Young<\/strong> of Grand Canyon is the WAC Women\u2019s Freshman of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Cal Baptist claimed four of the five men\u2019s honors, with Diver of the year <strong>Mario Del Valle<\/strong> and coaches <strong>Jim Bossert<\/strong> and <strong>Miranda King,<\/strong> the latter splitting Men\u2019s Diving Coach of the Year honors with <strong>Anne Schwemmer<\/strong> of UNLV. <strong>Tanner Wilson<\/strong> of Air Force is the WAC Men\u2019s Freshman of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Kiefer on the 200 individual medley, 400 IM and 200 backstroke at the WAC Championships. The sophomore also helped the Vandals to a bronze medal in 800 freestyle relay, and her 60 points was the most collected at the championships meet.<\/p>\n<p>Knapp, a fifth-year, swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving championships at the WAC meet. She won the 1-meter event for a fifth straight season. She was part of podium sweeps on both and the \u2018Jacks earning four of the eight spots in the platform final, leading Kelsey to her honor.<\/p>\n<p>Young scored 36 points for GCU at the WAC Championships, most among freshman. She won the 100 breaststroke and was third in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Pratt led New Mexico State to a second-place finish at the WAC Championships, with five gold, one silver and two bronze medals.<\/p>\n<p>Fabiani won three individual events and two relays at the WAC Championships. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/from-luxembourg-to-california-baptist-remi-fabiani-has-big-dreams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">senior from Luxembourg<\/a> set the WAC record in the 50 free (18.86 seconds) and the 100 free (41.83) in addition to winning the 100 back in 45.40. Fabiani has A cuts in the 50 free and 100 free that will get him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2025-ncaa-mens-division-i-official-psych-sheets\/ncaa-college\/2025\/March\/11?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to NCAAs next week<\/a>. He helped Cal Baptist finish second in the standings, leading to Bossert\u2019s honor.<\/p>\n<p>The sophomore Del Valle is the Diver of the Year for the second straight season, having won the 1-meter event and platform at the conference meet. He also finished third on 3-meter.
