Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m Expecting Her First Baby In August; Maintains Her Desire To Compete At LA 2028<\/h4>\n
Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m <\/b>and husband Johan de Jong Skierus<\/strong> are set to become parents for the first time in August with the three-time Olympic champion also reaffirming her desire to compete at the 2028 Olympics.<\/p>\n
The Swede – who won the 50\/100 freestyle double at Paris 2024 – announced she was pregnant on social media, five months after marrying her long-time partner in Tuscany.<\/p>\n
It comes a little under two months after the 31-year-old said in December 2024<\/a> that she had no plans to compete in 2025 and would thus be bypassing the World Championships in Singapore.<\/p>\n
Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m said: “Life\u2019s greatest adventure is about to begin! We are beyond excited to announce that our family is growing, and we can\u2019t wait to meet our baby in August \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n
“I knew that many women experience challenges during the first trimester (and throughout pregnancy \ud83d\ude33), but I wasn\u2019t prepared for just how tough it could be. These past weeks have been some of the most mentally and physically challenging I\u2019ve ever faced. I am more in awe than ever of what women go through. I\u2019ve always admired the strength of women, but now I understand it on a whole new level.<\/p>\n
Luckily, I\u2019ve been able to swim and train on my good days. It\u2019s been incredible to see what my body is capable of during this journey! Everything is much slower now in the water, but I still feel a sense of harmony when I swim, and it\u2019s amazing to move in a way that feels so natural.<\/p>\n
“Of course, I will fight to compete at a high level again. I\u2019ve always been inspired by women who continue their athletic careers after pregnancy, and I think it\u2019s curiosity that drives me. It\u2019s not about records or medals. It\u2019s about discovering what my body is capable of after recovering from pregnancy.<\/p>\n
“My dream is to compete at the LA 2028 Olympics and make it to my sixth Olympic Games. \ud83c\udfc6<\/p>\n
