﻿{"id":605287,"date":"2025-02-23T16:42:34","date_gmt":"2025-02-23T23:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=605287"},"modified":"2025-02-23T16:42:34","modified_gmt":"2025-02-23T23:42:34","slug":"atlantic-10-conference-championships-george-washington-university-sweeps-team-titles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/atlantic-10-conference-championships-george-washington-university-sweeps-team-titles\/","title":{"rendered":"Atlantic 10 Conference Championships: George Washington University Sweeps Team Titles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0Atlantic 10 Conference: George Washington University Sweeps Team Titles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>George Washington University made it a clean sweep at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, as its men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s teams won their fifth and fourth straight titles, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The first relay of the meet went to the University of Richmond. <strong>Caroline Weldon<\/strong> (25.52), <strong>Gabbie Primiano<\/strong> (28.20), <strong>Lena Amare<\/strong> (24.51) and <strong>Melissa Nwakalor<\/strong> (21.35) combined for a 1:39.64 to beat George Washington University by six hundredths. GWU got the upper hand in the men&#8217;s edition of the event. <strong>Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan<\/strong> (21.70), <strong>Preston Lin<\/strong> (24.30), <strong>Daniel Nagy<\/strong> (21.05) and <strong>Elliot Irwin<\/strong> (18.94) won in a 1:25.99. The women&#8217;s one meter diving went to George Washington University&#8217;s <strong>Olivia Paquette<\/strong> at 277.20 points.<\/p>\n<p>GWU kept the ball rolling, winning the women&#8217;s 800 freestyle relay with a 7:15.48. <strong>Collen Macwilliams<\/strong> (1:48.21), <strong>Molly Smyers<\/strong> (1:48.89), <strong>Taylor Bernosky<\/strong> (1:49.43) and <strong>Ava Topolewski<\/strong> (1:48.95) took a three tenths win over Duquesne. George Mason University took over for the men&#8217;s edition of the event, swimming a conference and meet record. <strong>Tate Anderson<\/strong> (1:34.10), <strong>Alex Crown<\/strong> (1:36.25), <strong>Cody Scifres<\/strong> (1:36.90) and <strong>Zane Roberts<\/strong> (1:37.48) took the win over Davidson College.<\/p>\n<h3>Thursday<\/h3>\n<p>Topolewski took the first individual event of the meet in the 500 freestyle. Her 4:46.91 marked an NCAA B-Cut. The Revolutionaries made it a 1-3 finish as Macwilliams took third. Davidson College&#8217;s <strong>Dylan Felt\u00a0<\/strong>secured an NCAA B-Cut in the 500 freestyle to win the men&#8217;s event with a 4:17.17. Felt blitzed the field, as <strong>Daniel Choi<\/strong> (4:23.11) was six seconds behind.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 200 individual medley went to <strong>Ali Tyler<\/strong> in a 1:57.37. The George Mason senior&#8217;s B-Cut is just three tenths outside what scored an NCAA invite in 2024. <strong>Connor Rodgers<\/strong> (1:44.24) got more points on the board for GWU, winning by five hundredths over GMU&#8217;s Anderson (1:44.29) in the men&#8217;s event. Both swimmers secured NCAA B-Cuts.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Richmond&#8217;s Nwakalor backed up her medley relay split in the 50 freestyle, swimming a 21.98 for the win, over a tenth under the 2024 NCAA invited time. Three men cracked 20 seconds in the men&#8217;s event, led by La Salle&#8217;s <strong>Felix Jedbratt<\/strong> (19.20). Jedbratt&#8217;s time was a new meet record and seven hundredths outside of what was invited to NCAAs last year.<\/p>\n<p>Massachusett&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrew Bell\u00a0<\/strong>secured the win in the men&#8217;s one meter diving with 359.80 points.<\/p>\n<p>Nwakalor (22.13),\u00a0<strong>Presley Baber\u00a0<\/strong>(22.93),\u00a0<strong>Julia Krichev <\/strong>(22.77) and <strong>Caitlyn Hughes\u00a0<\/strong>(22.71) combined for a 1:30.54 to win the 200 freestyle relay for Richmond. GWU stormed to the win in the men&#8217;s event in a 1:18.42. Irwin (19.80), <strong>Holden Thomas\u00a0<\/strong>(19.86), Sivaramakrishnan (19.40), &amp;\u00a0<strong>AJ Wood\u00a0<\/strong>(19.36) finished just four tenths outside of the meet record.<\/p>\n<h3>Friday<\/h3>\n<p>Duquesne&#8217;s <strong>Ashley Freel<\/strong> took the first win of the day, winning the women&#8217;s 100 butterfly in a 53.00. GWU&#8217;s <strong>Moriah Freitas\u00a0<\/strong>secured a B-Cut alongside Freel, finishing four hundredths behind (53.04). Jedbratt won his second event of the meet for La Salle, blitzing the men&#8217;s field with a 44.97. A new meet record, it also means a likely NCAA qualification.<\/p>\n<p>Fordham&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ainhoa Martin\u00a0<\/strong>led three B-Cut qualifiers in the women&#8217;s 400 individual medley, winning in a 4:13.40. GWU&#8217;s Macwilliams nearly ran down Martin, finishing in a 4:13.65. Senior Revolutionary Rodgers made it a medley sweep, winning his second event of the meet with a 3:46.15. The men&#8217;s 400 individual medley saw two NCAA B-cuts, as GWU took 1-2-3 in the final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orla Egan\u00a0<\/strong>got the win in the women&#8217;s 200 freestyle (1:49.37), leading three athletes under 1:50. Davidson College&#8217;s Felt won the men&#8217;s event, just over his own conference record with a 1:33.76.<\/p>\n<p>GMU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma DeJong\u00a0<\/strong>hit an NCAA B-Cut for the win in the 100 breaststroke in a 1:01.11, eight hundredths ahead of La Salle&#8217;s <strong>Gabriella Herbreder<\/strong> (1:01.19). St. Bonaventure won its first event of the meet at the hands of <strong>Aidan Kreiley<\/strong> in the 100 breaststroke (53.30).<\/p>\n<p>GMU&#8217;s Tyler won a second event in the women&#8217;s 100 backstroke at 52.62, a meet record. George Washington&#8217;s Sivaramakrishnan took the men&#8217;s event in a 46.63. Davidson&#8217;s <strong>Annica Valmassei<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s 3 meter diving event with 303.15 points.<\/p>\n<p>George Mason University took the women&#8217;s 400 medley relay as Tyler (53.19), DeJong (1:01.02), <strong>Abigail<\/strong> <strong>Martaugh<\/strong> (54.94) and <strong>Peyton Brehmer<\/strong> (50.13) won in a 3:39.28. The George Washington men took the men&#8217;s event in a 3:07.43. Sivaramakrishnan (46.43), Lin (53.10), Nagy (45.64) and Irwin (42.26) repeated their order from two nights prior to take the win over La Salle.<\/p>\n<h3>Saturday<\/h3>\n<p>Topolewski hit an NCAA B-Cut in the 1650 free to win handily in a 16:24.19. Davidson&#8217;s Felt made it three for three in individual wins, taking the men&#8217;s 1650 in a 15:08.31.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Haley Scholer\u00a0<\/strong>won her first event of the meet in a 1:54.96. It was a Duquesne 1-2 in the women&#8217;s 200 backstroke as freshman <strong>Sierra Snow<\/strong> secured silver (1:55.91). Extending its lead, the George Washington men got another win from <strong>Shae Stratton<\/strong> in the men&#8217;s 200 backstroke at a 1:42.96.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 100 freestyle went to George Mason&#8217;s Tyler in 48.62, a meet record. Richmond&#8217;s Nwakalor took silver in a 48.78. Three event winners converged in the men&#8217;s event, where GWU&#8217;s Irwin pulled out a win in a 42.73. La Salle&#8217;s Jedbratt took second (43.16).<\/p>\n<p>Fordham&#8217;s\u00a0Martin got a second individual title on her plate with a 2:11.55 in the 200 breaststroke. Leading a tight finish, the top three finishers were under 2:12. <strong>Benjamin Sosnowski<\/strong> added more to the growing GWU men&#8217;s point total with a win in the men&#8217;s event in a 1:56.23.<\/p>\n<p>Fordham&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jordan Zebrowski<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s 200 butterfly in a 1:59.44. Duquesne&#8217;s Freel took second, also under 2:00 with a 1:59.49. George Washington&#8217;s Rodgers continued a points conquest for the Revolutionaries with a meet record 1:43.40 in the men&#8217;s event. Bell swept the diving events with a meet record 428.15 points in three meter diving.<\/p>\n<p>Richmond took the final women&#8217;s event of the meet, winning the 400 freestyle relay by 16 hundredths over GMU. Amare (50.40), Baber (50.48), <strong>Katie Chignell<\/strong> (49.99) and Nwakalor (48.45) combined to a 3:19.32.<\/p>\n<p>George Washington University won yet another event on the final day in the 400 freestyle relay in a conference record 2:53.10. Irwin (42.91), Sivaramakrishnan (44.07), Nagy (43.26) and Wood (42.86) won by two seconds over GMU.<\/p>\n<h3>Atlantic 10 Final Men&#8217;s Team Scores<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>George Washington University-
