She had set the conference record at 4:30.68 in November.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday, she led a trio of 4:35s, with Georgia\u2019s <strong>Dune Coetzee<\/strong> finishing second and <strong>Emma Weyant<\/strong> of Florida third. Cox is joined by <strong>Erin Gemmell,<\/strong> who finished seventh, in the A final. Magahey owns the pool record at 4:09.83 from 2022, which will be in the crosshairs at night.<\/p>\n<p>On to Texas, whose swims are likely a reflection of some of the top swimmers not being fully rested. David Johnston paced the Longhorns in third place in 4:10.44. <strong>Rex Maurer,<\/strong> whose 4:04.45 in November stands as the American mark, was seventh in 4:11.27. He was lucky to get into the A final, with teammates <strong>Coby Carrozza<\/strong> (seventh at NCAAs last year) ninth in 4:11.65 and NCAA runner-up <strong>Luke Hobson<\/strong> .03 back. They join <strong>Manning Haskal<\/strong> and <strong>Jackson Huckaby<\/strong> in the B final.<\/p>\n<p>It is a daunting field, to be sure. <strong>Charlie Hawke,<\/strong> fifth at NCAAs last year, finished fourth in the morning for Alabama. <strong>Gio Linscheer<\/strong> of Florida was fifth, with teammate <strong>Jake Mitchell<\/strong> eighth. Seven schools have an A finalist. Four swimmers got under 22 seconds, with Alabama\u2019s <strong>Cadence Vincent<\/strong> in 21.63, Texas\u2019s <strong>Grace Cooper<\/strong> in 21.86 and <strong>Michaela De Villiers<\/strong> of LSU in 21.99, the only one of the bunch to crack 22 seconds for the first time this season on the morning. Texas has two A finalists, with <strong>Ava Longi<\/strong> tied for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest miss of the final may be <strong>Jillian Crooks,<\/strong> who went 22.21, three tenths slower than her seed time, for 13th.
