Double Commonwealth 1500 free medallist Dan Jervis<\/strong> has announced his retirement after competing for 10 years on the international stage.<\/p>\n Jervis announced himself on the senior international stage when he claimed bronze in the 1500 behind Ryan Cochrane<\/strong> and Mack Horton<\/strong> while representing Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, clocking 14:55.33 to take third 0.38 ahead of Jordan Harrison<\/strong> of Australia.<\/p>\n He made his Great Britain debut two years later at the European Championships<\/strong> in London where he finished 11th in the 800 and 13th in the 15.<\/p>\n Jervis competed at his first World Championships<\/strong> at Budapest 2017 and a year later claimed Commonwealth silver at the 2018 Games on the Gold Coast in 14:48.67.<\/p>\n He enjoyed a fine Olympic debut with fifth in the 150o in Tokyo before making his second appearance at the Games at Paris 2024<\/strong> where he finished 15th.<\/p>\n There was huge disappointment in 2022 when he withdrew from the Commonwealth Games after failing to recover from Covid. In his absence, Sam Short<\/strong> of Australia won the 1500 title in 14:48.54 in a race where Daniel Wiffen<\/strong> made his maiden trip to the international podium with an historic silver.<\/p>\n That came weeks after he came out as gay, expressing his hope that he could be a role model and inspiration.<\/p>\n Jervis hangs up his goggles having competed at two Olympics, four World Championships and two Europeans as well as claiming 11 national titles.\u00a0He leaves with PBs of 14:46.51 (1500), 7:41.81 (800) and 3:46.44 (400).<\/p>\n It’s the second retirement of a British elite distance swimmer in as many weeks with Toby Robinson<\/strong> – who was 14th in the 10k at Paris 2024 – also hanging up his goggles.<\/p>\n
