JUNIOR Kaitlin Sandeno won two more races while freshmen Kalyn Keller and Cait Connealy, junior Margie Pedder and senior Nicci Fusaro also posted wins to help USC post a slim victory over Texas, 169-165, to wrap up the two-day short-course meters meet on Saturday, October 25 at USC&#39;s McDonald&#39;s Swim Stadium. <\/p>\n<p>Sandeno also combined with freshman Kristina Sieper, senior Jana Krohn and sophomore Joy Galloway in the 200m medley relay as they edged Texas&#39; relay, 1:56.27 to 1:56.37, to open Saturday&#39;s swimming. <\/p>\n<p>Keller, who won the 400m free on Friday, won her second event by winning the 1500m free in 16:14.97, an NCAA automatic qualifying time and only .20 off of Asa Sandlund&#39;s school record of 16:14.77. Pedder was second in 16:25.43, an NCAA B cut. Galloway was third in 16:38.40, also a B cut. <\/p>\n<p>Connealy won her first race as a Trojan by taking the 200m free in 2:01.83 (B cut), ahead of Texas sophomore Kristin Siminski (2:02.29) and Krohn (2:02.47). <\/p>\n<p>Sandeno won her first race of the day in the 100m back, setting a school record with a swim of 1:00.64 (NCAA A cut), breaking Paige Francis&#39; mark of 1:01.12. Longhorn sophomore Elizabeth Wycliffe was second (1:01.91) and junior Sarah Wanezek was third (1:01.95). <\/p>\n<p>Over in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, senior Nicci Fusaro scored valuable points in the diving well, winning the 3-meter with 539.20 points, well ahead of second-place Ali Hartzell of Texas, who had 477.35. <\/p>\n<p>Sandeno won the 200m IM, winning in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:13.32. <\/p>\n<p>The Texas men started off the afternoon with first and second-place finishes in the 400-meter Medley Relay. The team of sophomore Aaron Peirsol (Irvine, Calif.), senior Brendan Hansen (Havertown, Pa.), junior Daniel DiToro (Scottsdale, Ariz.), and senior Tony Diers (Houston, Texas) finished the race in a time of 3:41.20. <\/p>\n<p>John Nabors (Spring, Texas) followed with a third-place finish in the 400-meter Individual Medley with a time of 4:27.32. The men also placed among the top three and top five in the100-meter Butterfly and 100-meter Freestyle, respectively. Additionally, Peirsol added two more top-three times by finishing first in the 200-meter Backstroke (1:58.39) and third in the 400-meter Freestyle (3:58.19). <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hansen, another World Record holder along with Peirsol, led all swimmers in the 200-meter Breaststroke with a time of 2:14.17. The men then concluded the meet with a 1:31.98 first-place finish in the 200-meter Freestyle Relay behind the efforts of freshman Tyler O&#39;Halloran (Boardman, Ohio), seniors Ian Crocker (Portland, Maine) and Tony Diers, and junior Austin McAnally (McKinney, Texas). <\/p>\n<p>The Longhorn women were led by strong performances from junior Sarah Wanezek (Brookfield, Wis.) and sophomore Elizabeth Wycliffe (Kingston, Ontario) as both teamed up with freshman Elizabeth Tinnon (Bowling Green, Ky.) and senior Lacey Elliott (El Paso, Texas) to record a second-place finish in the 400-meter Medley Relay with a time of 4:07.75. <\/p>\n<p>Wanezek and sophomore Kristin Siminski (Portage, Ind.) also finished second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter Individual Medley with times of 56.15 and 56.81, while Wanezek went on to place third, one spot ahead of teammate freshman Katie Robinson (Dillsboro, Ind.), in the 100-meter Butterfly. <\/p>\n<p>Wycliffe, meanwhile, continued to help Texas&#39; cause with a second-place finish in the 200-meter Backstroke (2:13.44).  The women then scored their final points of the day as Wanezek, Elliott, freshman Connie Brown (Andover, Mass.) and Siminski finished the 200-meter Freestyle Relay with a second-place time of 1:44.45.<\/p>\n<p>After Texas finished one-two in the 200m medley relay, Jensen came back for the Trojans in the 1500m free, winning in 15:13.37, an NCAA consideration time. Sophomore Tyler Storie was second in 15:48.35 and senior co-captain Matt Peterson was third in 16:08.91. <\/p>\n<p>Mellouli won his first race of the day by taking the 200m free in 1:48.89 (NCAA B cut).
