{"id":604479,"date":"2025-02-07T11:09:42","date_gmt":"2025-02-07T18:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=604479"},"modified":"2025-02-07T11:09:42","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T18:09:42","slug":"ishof-announces-star-studded-class-of-2025-ryan-lochte-anthony-ervin-among-honorees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ishof-announces-star-studded-class-of-2025-ryan-lochte-anthony-ervin-among-honorees\/","title":{"rendered":"ISHOF Announces Star-Studded Class of 2025; Ryan Lochte, Anthony Ervin Among Honorees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISHOF Announces Star-Studded Class of 2025; Ryan Lochte, Anthony Ervin Among Honorees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">ISHOF is thrilled to announce that it will be hosting its 60<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary\u00a0<strong>Honoree Induction Ceremony<\/strong>\u00a0in Singapore in conjunction with the World Aquatics World Championships,\u00a0<strong>Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Park Royal Collection, Marina Bay, Singapore.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">We are looking forward to welcoming the World of Aquatics, including many of our Honorees, as well as our friends in aquatics, to help us celebrate this special Class of 2025 to ISHOF\u2019s \u201cDiamond Anniversary.\u201d\u00a0 To accommodate the busy World Championships schedule, we will be hosting the Induction at a luncheon, just as swimming and diving are getting underway in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The\u00a0International Swimming Hall of Fame<\/strong>\u00a0(ISHOF) is proud to announce its truly international\u00a0<strong>Class of 2025.\u00a0<\/strong>This year, ISHOF will induct 11 honorees from nine countries.\u00a0 In addition, ISHOF will be inducting Honorees from four new countries that we have never had Honorees inducted from before &#8211; <strong>Kuwait<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>India<\/strong>, <strong>Tunisia,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Singapore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This year\u2019s International Swimming Hall of Fame honorees include:\u00a0<strong>HONOR SWIMMERS<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0<em>Anthony Ervin (USA),<\/em>\u00a0<em>Ryan Lochte (USA), Federica Pellegrini\u00a0<\/em>(ITA),<strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/strong><em>Joseph Schooling\u00a0<\/em><strong>(SIN);<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>OPEN WATER SWIMMER<em>:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>Ous Mellouli<\/em>\u00a0(TUN),\u00a0<strong>DIVER:<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Chen Ruolin (CHN)<\/em>,\u00a0<strong>WATER POLO PLAYER<\/strong>:\u00a0<em>Endre \u201cBandi\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<em>Molnar (HUN),<\/em>\u00a0<strong>SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMER:\u00a0<\/strong><em>Andrea Fuentes (ESP\/USA),<\/em>\u00a0<strong>COACH:<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Gregg Troy (USA),<\/em>\u00a0<strong>CONTRIBUTOR:<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Captain Husain AL Musallam (KUW),<\/em>\u00a0<strong>PIONEER:<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Sachin Nag* (IND)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">*deceased<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Anthony \u201cTony\u201d Ervin (USA)\u00a0<\/strong> has been called one of the most naturally gifted swimmers to ever compete, a two-time Olympian, with four Olympic medals, three gold and one silver. His titles in the 50-meter freestyle arrived 16 years apart, spanning 2000-2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Ryan Lochte (USA)<\/strong> is a 12-time Olympic medalist, making him the third-most decorated swimmer in Olympic history, measured by total number of medals, behind only <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong> and <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>.\u00a0 Lochte\u2019s seven individual Olympic medals rank second in history in men\u2019s swimming, tied for second among all Olympic swimmers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Federica Pellegrini (ITA)<\/strong> is the only swimmer \u2212 male or female \u2212 to have won eight medals in a row in the same event, the 200-meter freestyle, at the World Championships.\u00a0 In addition, she is the FIRST female Italian Olympic swimming champion and the only Italian swimmer to have set world records in more than one event.\u00a0 At the 2020 Olympic Games, she became the FIRST FEMALE SWIMMER to qualify for five consecutive Olympic finals in the same event, the 200m freestyle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Joseph Schooling (SIN)<\/strong>, known as Singapore\u2019s Flying Fish, he is the only person, male or female to win a gold medal in Olympic competition, in any sport, for the country of Singapore. It just so happens that it was at the Rio Olympic Games, in 2016, in the 100-meter butterfly, where he beat his idol, the greatest Olympian of all-time, Michael Phelps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Chen Ruolin (CHN)<\/strong>\u00a0isa five-time Olympic gold medalist in the sport of diving on the 10-meter platform, competing in three Olympic Games: 2008, 2012, and 2016.\u00a0 She won 100 medals in major competitions, 84 of which were gold,\u00a014 silver and 2 bronze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Andrea Fuentes (ESP\/USA)<\/strong> is the most decorated swimmer in the history of the Spanish National team.\u00a0 She won a total of four Olympic medals, three silver and a bronze from two Olympic Games, London, 2012 and Beijing, 2008, as a member of the Spanish Synchronized swimming Team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Endre \u201cBandi\u201d Molnar (HUN) <\/strong>was a goalkeeper for Hungary in the 1970\u2019s, when Hungary was a powerhouse.\u00a0 He was considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the time.\u00a0 He is one of only eight male athletes who won four or more Olympic medals in water polo- (1976-gold, 1972-silver, 1968-bronze, 1980-bronze).\u00a0 He is a World Champion (1973), with two silver medals, and a two-time European Champion (1974, 1977).\u00a0 Molnar was teammates with some of the greatest water polo players of all time, including ISHOF Honorees,<strong> Tamas Farago, Istvan Szivos<\/strong> and <strong>Andras<\/strong> <strong>Bodnar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Oussama \u201cOus\u201d Mellouli<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>(TUN)<\/strong>\u00a0is a three-time Olympic medalist who competed not only in the\u00a0freestyle\u00a0and\u00a0IM\u00a0races in the pool, but also in\u00a0professional marathon swims\u00a0and international\u00a0open water swimming\u00a0competitions. The world\u2019s most successful\u00a0crossover swimmer, who at the 2012 London Olympic Games, established the \u201cMellouli Double\u201d, when, he won the 10 km open water event in the\u00a0Serpentine, five days after winning the bronze in the 1500m\u00a0freestyle\u00a0in the pool.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Gregg Troy (USA)\u00a0<\/strong>is a three-time Olympic Coach for the USA, 1996, 2008 and 2012.\u00a0 He has coached many Olympians and Olympic gold medalists including <strong>Ryan Lochte, Caeleb Dresse<\/strong>l and <strong>Elizabeth Beisel<\/strong> to name a just few.\u00a0 He was the Head Coach of the Bolles School, 1977-1997, and the University of Florida Gators from 1998-2018, winning the Women\u2019s NCAA\u2019s in 2010.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Captain Husain AL MUSALLAM (KUW)\u00a0<\/strong>began serving the world of sport as an Olympic Counsel of Asia Member in 1982.\u00a0 He began his tenure at FINA as a Bureau Member in 1996 through 2009, also serving simultaneously as Deputy Director General and Technical Director, on the Olympic Counsel of Asia (1998-2003).\u00a0 He was promoted to FINA Vice President (2009-2015); Also serving as DIRECTOR GENERAL, OLYMPIC COUNEL OF ASIA: (2005-PRESENT); He served as World Aquatics First Vice President (2015-2021); He is the Current President of World Aquatics (2021-Present) and Secretary General, Kuwaiti Olympic Committee: (2023-2027).<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Sachin NAG* (IND)\u00a0<\/strong>is India\u2019s only gold medal winner in swimming at the Asian Games.\u00a0 As importantly, he also finished in sixth place at the 1948 London Olympics in the 100m freestyle event, also competing for the Indian water polo team, scoring four goals. He would also go on to compete in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, representing India in water polo.
