{"id":604148,"date":"2025-02-01T21:58:16","date_gmt":"2025-02-02T04:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=604148"},"modified":"2025-02-02T06:59:36","modified_gmt":"2025-02-02T13:59:36","slug":"red-hot-luca-urlando-adds-pool-record-in-200-back-as-georgia-tops-emory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/red-hot-luca-urlando-adds-pool-record-in-200-back-as-georgia-tops-emory\/","title":{"rendered":"Red-Hot Luca Urlando Adds Pool Record in 200 Back as Georgia Tops Emory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Red-Hot Luca Urlando Adds Pool Record in 200 Back as Georgia Tops Emory<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A week removed from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/luca-urlando-downs-ncaa-record-in-200-fly-as-georgia-tennessee-split\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his 200 butterfly NCAA record<\/a>, <strong>Luca Urlando<\/strong> downed a <strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> pool record in the 200 backstroke Saturday in a dual meet with Emory.<\/p>\n<p>The Bulldogs pulled out a pair of wins on Senior Day at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium, the men winning by a score of 198-80 and the women prevailing, 191-102.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/georgiadogs.com\/documents\/2025\/2\/1\/09_Emory_Results.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/sec-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Urlando gave himself a backstroke day, as he does hold the American SCY record in the 100 back. Urlando went 1:38.18 in the 200 back, which downed a pool record set in the fall of 2015 by his fellow Olympian Murphy. Urlando had a go at the 50 freestyle, winning in 19.34 seconds. He wrapped up the day by winning the 200 individual medley in 1:42.20.<\/p>\n<p>Urlando had led off the winning 200 medley relay in 20.55 seconds, joining <strong>Kristian Pitshugin, Wesley Ng<\/strong> and <strong>Reese Branzell<\/strong> to go 1:23.55 and win.<\/p>\n<p>Pitshugin won the 100 breast. <strong>Tane Bidois,<\/strong> the runner-up to Urlando in the 50 free, won the 100 free in 44.07. He joined 500 free winner <strong>Tomas Koski, Roman Valdez<\/strong> and <strong>Aaron Seymour<\/strong> in winning the 200 free relay. Seymour was second to <strong>Sam Powe<\/strong> in the 100 back, while Valdez won the 200 fly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew Bray<\/strong> won 1-meter diving with a score of 376.75 points. <strong>Renato Calderaro<\/strong> got the better of his teammate on 3-meter by 1.37 points, tallying 408.90. <strong>Jake Magahey<\/strong> (1,000 free), <strong>Arie Voloschin<\/strong> (200 breast), and <strong>Peter Sacca<\/strong> (100 fly) all added wins.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Helena Jones<\/strong> led the Georgia women with a pair of wins. She went 1:45.80 win the 200 free, then 48.89 to take the 100 free. Second in the latter was <strong>Katie Belle Sikes,<\/strong> whose 22.28 won the 50 free.
