﻿{"id":604141,"date":"2025-02-01T17:03:16","date_gmt":"2025-02-02T00:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=604141"},"modified":"2025-02-01T17:03:16","modified_gmt":"2025-02-02T00:03:16","slug":"michigan-swimming-celebrates-seniors-sweeps-miami","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michigan-swimming-celebrates-seniors-sweeps-miami\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Swimming Celebrates Seniors, Sweeps Miami"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women&#8217;s swimming and diving team recognized six seniors and topped Miami (Ohio) 161-125 on Saturday (Feb. 1) at Canham Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>The quartet of <strong>Stephanie Balduccini, Casey Chung, Brady Kendall<\/strong> and <strong>Letitia Sim<\/strong> started the final dual meet of the season with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, clocking a time of 3:32.36.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marian Ploger<\/strong> took care of business in the 1,000-yard freestyle, posting a time of 9:43.21 to outrace the field.<\/p>\n<p>Hannah Bellard <strong>won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.62. Lindsay Flynn and Rebecca Diaconescu<\/strong> completed the event sweep with times of 1:48.05 and 1:48.18, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claire Newman<\/strong> secured her first victory of the afternoon in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a 1:01.15. <strong>Ella Jo Piersma<\/strong> took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.67.<\/p>\n<p>Balduccini secured her first individual win of the meet in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.56 seconds. <strong>Christey Liang<\/strong> took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.82.<\/p>\n<p>Sim dominated the field in the 200-yard breaststroke, winning the event with a time of 2:13.93.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kathryn Shanley<\/strong> won the 500 free in her final dual meet in Canham with a time of 4:47.01. Piersma secured her second triumph of the day, winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.01.<\/p>\n<p>Bellard closed out the individual events with a win in the 400-yard IM, posting a mark of 4:09.82.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malia Amuan, Josie Connelly, Lexi Greenhawt<\/strong> and Piersma wrapped up the meet by taking first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:30.20.<\/p>\n<p>In diving, <strong>Kiarra Milligan<\/strong> swept both springboard events, winning the one-meter dive with a score of 330.00 and the three-meter dive with a tally of 350.45.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s meet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan men&#8217;s swimming and diving team honored its seven-member senior class before downing Miami (Ohio), 171-111, on Saturday (Feb. 1) in Canham Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eitan Ben-Shitrit, Ozan Kalafat, Tyler Ray<\/strong> and <strong>Jack Wilkening<\/strong> took the win in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:06.60 to start the meet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joshua Brown<\/strong> led the way in a Michigan sweep of the 1,000-yard freestyle, logging a mark of 8:56.62. <strong>William Savarese<\/strong> and <strong>Ryan Healy<\/strong> took second and third with times of 9:05.19 and 9:06.45, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colin Geer<\/strong> won the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 1:34.68. <strong>Gal Groumi<\/strong> and <strong>Eduardo<\/strong> <strong>Moraes<\/strong> rounded out the top three with marks of 1:34.72 and 1:34.83. <strong>Ethan Schwab<\/strong> outraced the field in the 100-yard breaststroke, logging a time of 53.93.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Lorne Wigginton<\/strong> captured the victory in the 200-yard butterfly, throwing down a time of 1:44.56. Ray clocked a 19.36 in the 50-yard freestyle to take the win for the Maize and Blue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bence Szabados<\/strong> posted a time of 43.13 in the 100-yard freestyle to take first overall.
