﻿{"id":604139,"date":"2025-02-01T16:52:24","date_gmt":"2025-02-01T23:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=604139"},"modified":"2025-02-01T16:52:24","modified_gmt":"2025-02-01T23:52:24","slug":"ohio-state-swims-to-sweep-of-pitt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ohio-state-swims-to-sweep-of-pitt\/","title":{"rendered":"Ohio State Swims to Sweep of Pitt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 13 Ohio State women&#8217;s swimming and diving team (6-1) and No. 14 men&#8217;s swimming and diving team (5-1) earned dominant victories over Pitt on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The OSU women defeated the Panthers, 161.5-131.5 and the men topped Pitt, 181-114.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s meet, <strong>Michelle Mazzara<\/strong> won the 3-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 287.63 to open competition on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.63, which is an NCAA provisional time for the team of <strong>Allie Fenska, Maria Ramos, Nyah Funderburke<\/strong> and <strong>Teresa Ivan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gwen Woodbury<\/strong> (9:49.57) and <strong>Emma Finlin<\/strong> (9:50.48) placed first and second, respectively, in the 1000 free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sienna Angove<\/strong> (1:45.25), <strong>Rachel Bockrath<\/strong> (1:46.67) and <strong>Paige Delma<\/strong> (1:46.95) were the top three finishers in the 200 free. Angove and Bockrath&#8217;s times are NCAA B cuts. <strong>Paige Hall<\/strong> won the 100 back with a time of 52.88. <strong>Delia Lloyd<\/strong> placed second with a time of 53.52. Both times are NCAA B standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ava DeAngelis<\/strong> (1:00.40),<strong> Reese Dehen<\/strong> (1:01.46), <strong>Danika Varda<\/strong> (1:01.56) and <strong>Nell Cagle<\/strong> (1:01.75) placed 1-2-3-4 in the 100 breast. DeAngelis&#8217; time is an NCAA B cut.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the 200 fly was<strong> Lucy Malys<\/strong> with an NCAA B standard time of 1:57.49. Jessica Eden finished in 1:59.48 to place third.<\/p>\n<p>Ivan (22.42) and Funderburke (22.73) placed second and third in the 50 free. Ivan&#8217;s time is an NCAA B cut.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State&#8217;s <strong>Erin Little<\/strong> (48.90) and <strong>Rachel Bockrath<\/strong> (49.15) finished first and second in the 100 free. Both times are NCAA B standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elise Nardozzi<\/strong> earned a second-place finish in the 200 back, touching the wall at 1:56.52, which is an NCAA B cut.<\/p>\n<p>Dehen (2:14.14), <strong>Krista Marlin<\/strong> (2:14.82) and <strong>Mia Rankin<\/strong> (2:15.10) finished 1-2-3 in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Malys (4:42.61), Finlin (4:57.23) and Woodbury (4:58.64) finished in the top three spots in the 500 free. Malys&#8217; time is an NCAA B cut.<\/p>\n<p>Funderburke placed third in the 100 fly with an NCAA B standard time of 54.43.<\/p>\n<p>The Buckeyes were exhibition swimmers for the remainder of the meet. Angove had the top time in the 400 IM (4:09.68) and the team of Little, Ivan, Hall and Bockrath had the top time in the 400 free relay (3:14.95).<\/p>\n<p>Pitt&#8217;s <strong>Sophie Yendell<\/strong> won the 50 free in 21.92 and 100 fly (51.74). <strong>Jess Vega<\/strong> won 1-meter diving (294.45). <strong>Kimmy Shannon<\/strong> won the 200 back in 1:56.13 and 400 IM (4:13.42).<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s meet, <strong>Tyler Read<\/strong> was the winner of the 3-meter dive, turning in an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 399.53.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State took the top two spots in the 200 medley relay, with the team of <strong>Cornelius Jahn, Karl Helmuth, Matt Klinge and Daniel Baltes<\/strong> finishing first in 1:24.33 and the team of <strong>Joseph Roth, Tristan Jankovics, Evan Fentress<\/strong> and <strong>Tomas Navikonis<\/strong> finishing second in 1:25.85.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlie Clark<\/strong> (8:58.07), <strong>Mason Edmund<\/strong> (9:02.77) and <strong>Sam Campbell<\/strong> (9:04.47) finished 1-2-3 in the 1000 free.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State&#8217;s <strong>Jordi Vilchez<\/strong> (1:34.20), Jahn (1:34.70) and <strong>TJ Frost<\/strong> (1:35.93) took the top three spots in the 200 free. Vilchez and Jahn&#8217;s times are NCAA B cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Roth finished second in the 100 back with a time of 47.64 and <strong>Martin Perecinsky<\/strong> finished third with a time of 47.83.<\/p>\n<p>Jankovics was the winner of the 100 breast, touching at 53.17. Helmuth (54.08), Luke Vickers (54.21) and <strong>Ahmed Ismail<\/strong> ( 54.39) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. All four times are NCAA B cuts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Metzler<\/strong> won the 200 fly with an NCAA B standard time of 1:44.24. Caleb Ellis (1:45.58) placed third.<\/p>\n<p>Klinge (19.53) and Baltes (19.63) placed first and second in the 50 free, both turning in NCAA B standards.<\/p>\n<p>Baltes (43.40), Navikonis (43.84) and <strong>Evan Fentress<\/strong> (43.92) went 2-3-4 in the 100 free.<br \/>\nJahn was the winner of the 200 back, finishing in a time of 1:40.99. Perecinsky (1:43.04), <strong>Will Bansberg<\/strong> (1:47.10) and Krys Gorski (1:47.43) finished third, fourth and fifth. Jahn and Perecinsky&#8217;s times are NCAA B cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State&#8217;s Jankovics picked up his second win of the day in the 200 breast, finishing in an NCAA B standard time of 1:55.59. Vickers (1:58.66) and Helmuth (1:59.82) finished third and fourth, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Frost won the 500 free with an NCAA B standard time of 4:21.04. Edmund finished second with a time of 4:25.03.<\/p>\n<p>Klinge was the winner of the 100 fly with a time of 45.81, which is an NCAA B cut.<br \/>\nRead also won the 1-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 352.43.<\/p>\n<p>The Buckeyes were exhibition swimmers for the remainder of the meet.
