The records and standards that the Virginia speedster are after already belong to her, and the mission is to improve on where she has been in the sensational seasons\u2019 past.<\/p>\n<p>In that quest Saturday, on the second day of the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown, Walsh set a season-best time of 45.68 in the 100 freestyle. She was just over three seconds behind that record, set in November, at 1:46.87.<\/p>\n<p>Second was NC State\u2019s <strong>Leah Shackley<\/strong> in 1:50.88. Kos, the Hungarian Olympic champion, won in 1:38.91, within eight tenths of his season-best time. Canny was fourth Saturday in 2:08.77.<\/p>\n<p>Second at the Showdown was Texas\u2019s <strong>Piper Enge<\/strong> in 2:07.90. <strong>Lisa Nystrand<\/strong> of NC State followed in 2:08.42. That\u2019s where the NCAA record in the event resides, in the hands of <strong>Alex Walsh.<\/strong> Sticklen set a nation-leading time in the fall at 1:49.54, and she wasn\u2019t far from it Saturday in winning in 1:49.87. She did it while outdueling Walsh head-to-head, the Virginia star finishing second in 1:52.11.<\/p>\n<p>Texas\u2019 <strong>Olivia Bray<\/strong> was third in 1:53.70. <strong>Katie Grimes<\/strong> followed in 1:54.39. He went 1:39.18, which is within a half second of his NCAA-leading time of 1:38.74. The Canadian Olympic medalist was clear of the field by more than three seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Texas was second and third (and fourth overall). <strong>Ryan Branon<\/strong> led that effort for the Longhorns in 1:42.51. <strong>Logan Walker<\/strong> was third in the A final in 1:43.43, but that time was .01 behind the result used by <strong>Cooper Lucas<\/strong> to take the B final. It was 10 seconds better than the field, with fellow Longhorn <strong>Kate Hurst<\/strong> second in 15:51.64. <strong>Deniz Ertan<\/strong> of Arizona State finished third in 16:02.35.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 1650 Freestyle<\/h2>\n<p>Give Texas the edge in the battle between their distance program and NC State\u2019s. <strong>David Johnston<\/strong> got the win for the Longhorns in 14:36.68, just a second over his best time of the season. NC State\u2019s <strong>Lance Norris<\/strong> was second in 14:39.42. Texas\u2019s <strong>Jackson Huckabay<\/strong> was third in 14:46.77, followed by <strong>Owen Lloyd<\/strong> of NC State in 14:48.14. <strong>Daniel Matheson<\/strong> was fifth in 14:51.05.<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 400 Freestyle Relay<\/h2>\n<p>Virginia capped the meet with another relay victory, the Cavaliers going 3:08.90 to win the 400 free relay by more than two seconds. <strong>Claire Curzan, Gretchen Walsh, Alex Walsh<\/strong> and <strong>Anna Moesch<\/strong> picked up the win. Gretchen Walsh blasted a split of 45.87 as part of the efforts. The Cavs have been 3:06.93 this year.<\/p>\n<p>Texas was second in 3:11.03, with <strong>Lillian Nesty, Emma Sticklen, Erin Gemmell<\/strong> and <strong>Grace Cooper<\/strong>, the last three splitting in the 47s. That\u2019s more than a second quicker than they had been in the fall. Kharun led off in 41.03, faster than the time that Kulow used to win the 100 free. Kulow anchored in 40.55.
