No one told the University of Virginia women\u2019s team.<\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers buzzed within a tenth of a second of their NCAA record Friday to open Session 1 of the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown at the Lee &amp; Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The quartet of <strong>Claire Curzan, Alex Walsh, Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> and <strong>Anna Moesch<\/strong> went 1:31.61. That\u2019s within a tenth of the 1:31.51 set by the Walshes, <strong>Lexi Cuomo<\/strong> and <strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong> at NCAAs in 2023. The same four swimmers went 1:31.53 two weeks ago against Virginia Tech. The difference to the record is all there in the relay pickups, with .79 seconds left on the blocks.<\/p>\n<p>Texas was second in 1:34.85, well ahead of NC State\u2019s 1:36.19. That\u2019s a season-best time for the Sun Devils. Kulow brought it home in 18.19, Kharun splitting 18.90.<\/p>\n<p>ASU won by more than a second over Texas. <strong>Will Modglin<\/strong> led off 20.83 seconds, with <strong>Nate Germonprez, Hubert Kos<\/strong> and <strong>Chris Guiliano<\/strong> rounding it out. American record holder <strong>Rex Maurer<\/strong> didn\u2019t summon those speeds \u2013 in part because he miscounted the laps and finished to his feet \u2013 but he won in 4:12.80. That was ahead of Olympic medalist <strong>Luke Hobson,<\/strong> who went 4:13.11.
