He coached with <strong>Duncan Laing,<\/strong> the coach of Kiwi Olympic champion <strong>Danyon Loader.<\/strong> Humer has coached in Dunedin and Christchurch, along with stints working for British Swimming and Swim Ireland. He returned in 2018 to Dunedin, working there with Fairweather, a two-time Olympian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-one-finals-erika-fairweather-makes-history-as-she-dominates-400-free-for-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who won gold in the 400 freestyle at the 2024 World Aquatics World Championships<\/a>. It\u2019s her sixth career Worlds medal (four long-course, two short-course).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/oceania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oceania Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With the change, Fairweather will relocate to the North Island and Auckland for her training. She\u2019ll work with <strong>Graham Hill<\/strong>, the national team\u2019s head coach, based out of North Shore Swimming Club.<\/p>\n<p>Humer has coached a number of international swimmers, including <strong>Zac Reid.<\/strong> He\u2019s a three-time Swimming New Zealand Coach of the Year. He will continue to coach at Swim Dunedin but won\u2019t travel to international meets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an absolute privilege to work with elite athletes, it\u2019s definitely better than a real job,\u201d Humer said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingnz.org\/post\/lars-humer-to-step-back-from-international-coaching\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Swimming NZ press release<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve dedicated the last 25 years to High Performance sport and the Olympic calendar and coached at three Olympic and two Paralympic Games. I\u2019m in my 60s now so I decided it\u2019s time to catch my breath and do some things for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLars has been an absolute stalwart of swimming in New Zealand,\u201d Swimming New Zealand CEO Steve Johns said. \u201cHe has been a huge part of our success on the world stage and has fostered a love of swimming in the hundreds of swimmers that he\u2019s coached.
