{"id":603412,"date":"2025-01-17T17:38:09","date_gmt":"2025-01-18T00:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=603412"},"modified":"2025-01-17T17:38:09","modified_gmt":"2025-01-18T00:38:09","slug":"auburn-wins-all-four-relays-in-sweep-of-kentucky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/auburn-wins-all-four-relays-in-sweep-of-kentucky\/","title":{"rendered":"Auburn Wins All Four Relays in Sweep of Kentucky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Auburn Wins All Four Relays in Sweep of Kentucky<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/auburn-men-dominate-south-carolina-but-gamecock-women-score-upset\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a tough loss to South Carolina last week<\/a>, the Auburn women bounced back in their trip to Kentucky, scoring a 163-137 victory while the Tiger men won 179-121 over the Wildcats.<\/p>\n<p>The Auburn women kicked off the meet with\u00a0<strong>Lora Komoroczy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Stasya Makarova<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Abigail Gibbons<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Lawson Ficken<\/strong> winning the 200 medley relay in 1:37.85.\u00a0<strong>Polina Nevmovenko<\/strong> captured the first individual victory for Auburn in the 200 freestyle, clocking 1:47.07, and Komoroczy topped the 100 backstroke (52.62).<\/p>\n<p>In the sprint freestyle events, <strong>Lisa Klevanovich<\/strong> took first in the 50 free (22.79), and after\u00a0<strong>Kate Murray<\/strong> finished one hundredth behind Klevanovich in the splash-and-dash, she returned to win the 100 free (49.00).\u00a0<strong>Julia Strojnowska<\/strong> edged Kentucky&#8217;s <strong>Libby Grether<\/strong> the 500 free (4:49.16).<\/p>\n<p>Gibbons came out on top in a tight the 100 fly (53.06), and to conclude the meet, two Auburn teams tied for first in the 200 free relay, both clocking 1:30.65. Ficken, Klevanovich, Nevmovenko and\u00a0<strong>Wyllo Hanson<\/strong> swam on the A-team while the B-team consisted of Murray,\u00a0<strong>Morgan Carteaux<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Isabella Ekk<\/strong> and Gibbons.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Libby Grether<\/strong> won the 1000 free in 9:50.08. <strong>Bridget Engel<\/strong> edged Makarova in the 100 breaststroke, 1:00.40 to 1:00.59, and she returned to win the 200 breast (2:10.51). <strong>Billie Sherratt<\/strong> took first in the 200 fly (1:58.03), and\u00a0<strong>Grace Frericks<\/strong> was the top finisher in the 200 back (1:54.85). In diving,\u00a0 <strong>Avery Giese<\/strong> won 1-meter (292.05), and <strong>Abby Devereaux<\/strong> won on 3-meter (309.09).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More college swimming news<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the men,\u00a0<strong>Nate Stoffle<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Henry Bethel<\/strong>, <strong>Kalle Makinen<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Logan Tirheimer<\/strong> placed first in the 200 medley relay (1:24.70). Stoffle dominated the 100 back (46.43) and 200 back (1:43.90), with Makinen winning the 50 free (19.45) and 100 free (43.64).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan Husband<\/strong> took first in the 200 free (1:35.09), and\u00a0<strong>Jacques Rathle<\/strong> held on to finish first in the 200 breast (1:58.19).\u00a0<strong>Sohib Khaled<\/strong> won the 100 fly (46.80), and\u00a0<strong>Whit Andrus<\/strong> took first in 3-meter diving (355.20). Makinen, Husband, Tirheimer and\u00a0<strong>Jon Vanzandt<\/strong> took first in the 200 free relay (1:18.19).<\/p>\n<p>For Kentucky,<strong>\u00a0Carson Hick<\/strong> continued his impressive season by topping the 1000 free (8:46.08), and he returned to win the 500 free (4:18.62). Veteran teammate <strong>Levi Sandidge <\/strong>placed first in both events. <strong>Adomas Gatulis<\/strong> took first in the 100 breast (53.79), and <strong>Ryan Merani<\/strong> was the winner of the 200 fly (1:43.79) and 200 IM (1:46.08).
