She was 34 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The university confirmed the death on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Lischwe was named the head coach of the women\u2019s water polo program in February 2017 and took over the men\u2019s team in June of 2018. She had previously served for one season as a graduate assistant, the first season that Division II institution sponsored the sport, and was an assistant on the men\u2019s team for two seasons. She was hailed by the university for her \u201cunwavering dedication to her student-athletes and commitment to fostering an environment of growth, excellence, and leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/water-polo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Water Polo News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cColleen embodied what it means to be a servant leader and cherished her opportunities to teach and develop young men and women,\u201d read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckendree.edu\/news\/mckendree-head-mens-and-womens-water-polo-coach-colleen-lischwe-passes-away.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a university statement<\/a>. \u201cShe was a close friend and colleague to many and helped to create the special bond that exists within the McKendree community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A charismatic personality, the infectious smile that she had, and just how visible and hardworking and just there,\u201d McKendree director of athletics <strong>Anthony Francis<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksdk.com\/article\/news\/local\/fundraiser-i-44-crash-victim-colleen-lischwe\/63-852ce6c3-2ed2-4195-9505-7d58ad767245\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told NBC affiliate KSDK<\/a>. \u201cShe never missed a moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lischwe was killed on Interstate 44 in St. Louis when the vehicle she was driving was struck by a semi-truck. A GoFundMe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/honoring-colleens-legacy-and-family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has been set up to support her family<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lischwe was a native of Missouri and a two-time state player at the year at Kirkwood High School. The utility player competed at the Division I level at Marist University, winning a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships and twice appearing in the NCAA Championships.
