BALTIMORE, Maryland, October 24. THE Johns Hopkins men's swimming team won six events but fell to Navy, 125-112, in its season-opener Friday at the White Athletic Center. <\/p>\n
The Blue Jays won the first event of the meet, as the team of junior J.P. Balfour (Plano, TX\/Plano East), senior Scott Pitz (Paoli, PA\/Conestoga), sophomore Tyler Harris (Lancaster, OH\/Lancaster), and junior Paul Zalewski (St. Louis, MO\/Kirkwood) took the 400 medley relay in 3:32.17. <\/p>\n
Chana then won the 1000 freestyle in 9:46.00, and three events later Balfour captured the 200 individual medley in 1:57.77. Other winners for Hopkins included sophomore Sean Kim (Silver Spring, MD\/Paint Branch), who won the 200 butterfly in 1:57.19, senior Oliver Buccicone (Rochester, MN\/Lourdes), who took the 500 freestyle in 4:45.31, and Pitz, who captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:12.19. <\/p>\n
Noah White led the Midshipmen, who improved to 3-1 this season, by winning the 50 freestyle in 21.51 and the 100 freestyle in 47.99. Marshall Boyd took the 200 freestyle in 1:44.98, while Kevin Mukri captured the 200 backstroke in 1:56.02. <\/p>\n
The team of Matt James, Tim Leonardi, Boyd, and White won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:12.55 for Navy, which took all 32 diving points as the Blue Jays do not have a diving squad. <\/p>\n
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, October 31, when the Blue Jays travel to the University of Maryland for a 3 p.m. meet with the Terrapins. <\/p>\n
