CINCINATI, Ohio, October 21. THE IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis) swimming teams traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio last Thursday and took on Xavier University in a dual meet. Xavier took both ends of the meet, defeating the IUPUI men's team 52-43 and the women's team 50-43.<\/p>\n

Senior A.J. Parks (Bremen, Ind.\/Bremen\/School of Technology) continued his hot start by sweeping the freestyle sprints for the second consecutive meet. He won the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.75 and the 100 freestyle in a team season-best time of 48.32. He also anchored the 400 freestyle to victory in 3:18.62.<\/p>\n

Freshman Brian Wheeler (Crown Point, Ind.\/Crown Point\/University College) showed that he has the potential to be the future for the Jaguars in the freestyle distance events. He won the 500 freestyle (4:55.90) for the second straight meet and also added a first-place finish in the 1000 free. His time of 10:10.11 in the 1000 was the third-quickest time in school history in the event. He also swam a leg on the victorious 400 free relay team.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Rob Trame (Syracuse, Ind.\/Wawasee\/University College) was the only other individual winner for the Jags. His time of 1:01.17 in the 100 breaststroke was a team season-best.<\/p>\n

Senior Grant Anderson (Indianapolis, Ind.\/Pike\/School of Physical Education & Tourism Management) and sophomore Brett Ellsworth (Jasper, Ind.\/Jasper\/University College) joined Parks and Wheeler on the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet won with a time of 3:18.62.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Kristen Krey (Decatur, Ind.\/Bellmont\/University College) led the women by winning the 50 free (25.45), finishing second in the 100 back (1:05.07) and swimming the lead-off leg of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team.<\/p>\n

Junior Clare Helphinstine (Plainfield, Ind.\/Plainfield\/School of Medicine) and sophomores Brandi Kropf (Middlebury, Ind.\/Northridge\/School of Education) and Jamie Carlini (Crown Point, Ind.\/Crown Point\/University College) also posted individual wins for IUPUI.<\/p>\n

Helphinstine won the 100 breaststroke in a team season-best time of 1:11.14, Carlini the 500 freestyle in a team season-best time of 5:42.24 and Kropf the 100 backstroke in 1:03.15.<\/p>\n

Krey was joined by junior Lindsey Huntsman (New Palestine, Ind.\/New Palestine\/School of Education), sophomore Lauren Heyde (Greenwood, Ind.\/Whiteland\/School of Physical Education & Tourism Management) and freshman Jen Montgomery (Cedar Lake, Ind.\/Hanover Central\/Kelley School of Business) on the 400 free relay. The team won the race in 3:55.01.<\/p>\n
