CHAPEL HILL, N. C., October 21. EDDY Matkovic, Eric Poitras, Reid Owen and Tristan Davidson each won a pair of events and Patrick Woodruff notched his first ever collegiate dual meet individual win as the North Carolina men's swimming and diving team downed Notre Dame 183.5-111.5 at Koury Natatorium Tuesday afternoon. <\/p>\n
The Tar Heels evened their record at 1-1 on the season while Notre Dame dropped its dual meet opener. <\/p>\n
UNC notched wins in 13 of 16 events. Two event winners were Eddy Matkovic in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle, Tristan Davidson in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley, Reid Owen in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle and Eric Poitras in one- and three-meter diving. <\/p>\n
Patrick Woodruff took the 200-yard breaststroke, the first dual meet win of his UNC career. UNC swept both relays and had single wins by Yuri Suguiyama and John Hartmann. <\/p>\n
Three different Notre Dame swimmers posted victories with Tim Randolph taking the 100-yard breaststroke, Frank Krakowski the 50-yard freestyle and Tim Kegelman the 100-yard butterfly.<\/p>\n
The Irish put 16 points on the board and turned in their strongest performance of the day in the 200 yard individual medley. Freshman Ted Brown (Kokomo, Ind.\/Western H.S.) led the way finishing first at 1:57:11, followed by junior David Moisan (Fisherville, Ky.\/Louisville Male H.S.) at 1:58:56, while sophomore Jamie Lutkus (Granger, Ind.\/Penn H.S.) touched third with a time of 1:58:84 seconds.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Tim Randolph (Crown Point, Ind.\/Merrillville H.S.) took the top spot in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 58.75 seconds.<\/p>\n
Notre Dame\u2019s Frank Krakowski (Erie, Pa.\/Cathedral Preparatory School) placed first in the 50 yard freestyle, edging out Tarheel Justin Donato by eight hundredths of a second clocking in at 21.62 seconds.<\/p>\n
Freshman Tim Kegelman (Yorktown, Va.\/Tabb H.S.) touched first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 49.89 seconds.<\/p>\n
