CENTER VALLEY, Penn, October 21. WITH victories over Rider and Lafayette last weekend, Navy was honored with three Patriot League Swimming & Diving weekly awards led by senior Terrance Fenningham (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Jenn Windstein (Lancaster, Pa.) and freshman Kevin Teague (Lexington, Ky.). <\/p>\n
Colgate junior Jenn Busby (Andover, Mass.) earned the final award of the week after a solid performance against Syracuse.<\/p>\n
Fenningham claims Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades after leading the Mids to victories over PL foe Lafayette (238-66) and Rider (219-81). The senior touched the wall first in each of his four events, including a two-second win in the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:11.11. Fenningham also claimed the gold medal in the 100m butterfly by nine-tenths of a second with a 57.45 mark and stood atop the podium in the 100m freestyle (53.08). He also swam the fastest leg for Navy in the 400 medley relay with a split of 24.30. The Mids relay squad was victorious with a time of 3:56.29.<\/p>\n
Windstein, the 2003 PL Swimmer of the Meet at the League Championship, picks up where she left off last year by winning the first Women's Swimmer of the Week award. The sophomore led Navy to a 175-123 win over Lafayette and a 169-129 decision over Rider Saturday. <\/p>\n
In her first race of the meet, Windstein captured the 200m freestyle by 1.8 seconds with a time of 2:10.12. She also touched the wall first in the 200m butterfly with a mark of 2:26.27, which was nearly three seconds quicker than the runner-up. Windstein also participated in the 400 freestyle (4:35.48) and the 400 freestyle relay (4:08.03) as an exhibition swimmer. Her time in the 400 free was seven seconds faster than the winning mark.<\/p>\n
Teague takes home Men's Diver of the Week honors after winning both diving events in dominating fashion as Navy defeated Lafayette and Rider. The freshman posted a score of 316.75 in the one-meter event, which was more than 100 points better than the second-place finisher. Teague also claimed the gold medal in the three-meter dive with 313.0 markers. His score in the three-meter event was 99 points higher than the next closest competitor. <\/p>\n
Busby wins the Women's Diver of the Week award for her performance in a 128-111 loss to intrastate foe Syracuse. The junior opened the meet with a two-point victory in the one-meter dive over teammate Emily McAuliff. Busby tallied 247.88 markers in the one-meter jump. In the three-meter event, Bubsy egded out McAuliff once again for the gold medal. This time by 0.6 points with a score of 141.90. <\/p>\n
The Patriot League, which was founded on the principles of admitting athletes who are academically representative of their class, is in its second decade of academic and athletic excellence. Participation in athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of the undergraduate experience. <\/p>\n
The Patriot League, which began as a successful Division I-AA football conference in 1986 and became an all-sport conference in 1990, includes American, Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy as full members and six associate members. These institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation and their alumni have played leadership roles in the shaping of our country.
