Budapest 2024, Day 3 Finals: Ilya Kharun Ties Meet Record in Golden 200 Fly Swim<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

It wasn’t quite a world record but Canada’s Ilya Kharun<\/strong> tied the meet record and broke the Americas record in the 200 butterfly at the 2024 Short Course World Championships on Thursday in Budapest.<\/p>\n

Kharun led from the start and got to the wall in 1:48.24, a time that equaled the championship record set by Japan’s Daiya Seto<\/strong> in 2018.<\/p>\n

Kharun’s opening split was 24.26 that put him two tenths ahead and he never looked back on his way to the world championship gold medal.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Alberto Razzetti<\/strong> also made his way into the record books. He won the silver medal in 1:48.64 to break the European record in the event.<\/p>\n

Poland’s Krzysztof Chmielewski<\/strong> took the bronze medal with a swim or 1:49.26.<\/p>\n

Andrei Minakov<\/strong> was just off the medals, taking fourth in 1:50.39.<\/p>\n

USA’s Trenton Julian<\/strong> finished fifth in 1:50.51, followed by Estonia’s Kregor Zirk<\/strong> (1:50.72), Brazil’s Nicolas Albiero<\/strong> (1:50.97) and Hungary’s Richard Marton<\/strong> (1:51.48).<\/p>\n
