USA Women&#8217;s 4&#215;100 Free Relay Crush\u00a0 Australia&#8217;s WR In Budapest<\/h4>\n<p>The USA women&#8217;s 4&#215;100 free relay took 0.42 off Australia&#8217;s WR as the records kept tumbling at the short-course worlds in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>The quartet of <strong>Kate Douglass, Katharine Berkoff, Alex Shackell<\/strong> and <strong>Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> were inside WR pace throughout and came home in 3:25.01.<\/p>\n<p>The splits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kate Douglass 50.95<\/li>\n<li>Katharine Berkoff 51.38<\/li>\n<li>Alex Shackell 52.01<\/li>\n<li>Gretchen Walsh 50.67<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It caps an unbelievable day for most of the group, with Douglass setting the world record in the 200 IM <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-kate-douglass-lowers-200im-wr-takes-down-katinka-hosszus-2014-mark-en-route-to-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to win gold<\/a>, Walsh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-gretchen-walsh-lowers-50-fly-record-first-woman-inside-24-secs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">twice downing the 50 fly world record<\/a> and Berkoff putting herself in position for a medal in the 100 back, finishing second in semifinals to teammate <strong>Regan Smith.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Douglass is now up to nine career World Short-Course Championships gold medals and 14 total medals. The medal is the first for Walsh at this meet, after three medals (one relay gold) at the long-course World Championships and four medals (two gold in relays) at the Paris Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought it was pretty cool,&#8221; Shackell said. &#8220;It was the first world record i have been a part of so that&#8217;s a dream come true.\u00a0 feel like its just building off of this summer and things are going really well and I am looking forward\u00a0to the rest of the week<\/p>\n<p>I am really excited\u00a0for more relays and especially for my individual swim on thursday.\u00a0 The 200 fly should be really fun.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2024-short-course-world-championships-entry-list-international-elite-2024-12-10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Budapest Entry List<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2024\/world-aquatics-swimming-championships-25m-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Budapest Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/budapest-2024-day-1-prelims-mcintosh-ponti-get-short-course-worlds-underway\/\">Budapest Day 1 Prelims Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Americans took down the world record set by the Australians in Melbourne in 2022 with the team of <strong>Mollie O\u2019Callaghan, Madison Wilson, Meg<\/strong> <strong>Harris<\/strong> and <strong>Emma McKeon.<\/strong> The latter\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-australian-women-set-new-world-record-in-4-x100m-freestyle-with-emma-mckeon-popping-49-96-anchor-split\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">otherworldly anchor split of 49.96 drove<\/a> that time to 3:25.43.<\/p>\n<p>The Aussies earned silver in 3:28.25 on Tuesday via Harris, <strong>Milla Jansen, Alexandria Perkins<\/strong> and <strong>Lani Pallister.<\/strong> The Aussies were sixth after Harris\u2019 leadoff leg, but 51.6s in the middle got them back onto the podium.<\/p>\n<p>The bronze medal went to Canada thanks to <strong>Mary-Sophie Harvey, Summer McIntosh, Ingrid Wilm<\/strong> and <strong>Penny Oleksiak.<\/strong> Harvey and McIntosh picked up their second medals of the session after bronze and gold, respectively, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-summer-mcintosh-takes-down-400-free-wr-in-350-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the 400 freestyle<\/a>. McIntosh had the fastest split of 51.81. Oleksiak went 52.01 on the anchor to hold off the Neutral Athletes, which punt <strong>Arina Surkova\u2019s<\/strong> 52.14 on the end.<\/p>\n<p>The Neutral Athletes ran second through the front half after <strong>Daria Klepikova<\/strong> and <strong>Daria Trofimova<\/strong> went 51.96 and 51.36, respectively.
