{"id":600675,"date":"2024-11-30T11:13:52","date_gmt":"2024-11-30T18:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=600675"},"modified":"2024-11-30T11:13:52","modified_gmt":"2024-11-30T18:13:52","slug":"leon-marchand-withdraws-from-world-short-course-championships-exhausted-needs-to-step-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/leon-marchand-withdraws-from-world-short-course-championships-exhausted-needs-to-step-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Leon Marchand Withdraws From World Short-Course Championships: &#8220;Exhausted&#8221; &#038; Needs To &#8220;Step Back&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Leon Marchand Withdraws From World Short-Course Championships: &#8220;Exhausted&#8221; &amp; Needs To &#8220;Step Back<\/h4>\n<p>Quadruple Olympic champion<strong> Leon Marchand<\/strong> has withdrawn from the World Short-Course Championships in Budapest, saying he&#8217;s &#8220;exhausted&#8221; after an &#8220;intense&#8221; year.<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchman won the IM double, 200 fly and 200m breaststroke in front of a home crowd at Paris 2024.\u00a0In October he competed on the World Cup tour <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-cup-singapore-day-3-leon-marchand-and-kate-douglass-crowned-overall-champions\/\">where he secured the overall men&#8217;s crown<\/a> ahead of <b>No\u00e8 Ponti <\/b>and <b>Duncan Scott.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>He was set to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/leon-marchand-among-a-france-team-of-13-selected-for-world-short-course-championships\/\">make his short-course worlds debut<\/a> as part of a 13-strong French team at the meet which runs from 10-15 December at the Duna Arena.<\/p>\n<p>However, he posted to social media, saying: &#8220;I&#8217;ve decided to pull out from the World Championships in Budapest. 2024 was really intense, I&#8217;ve done a lot of big competitions and I&#8217;m exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s time for me to step back, train hard and start preparing (for) future challenges.
