{"id":600495,"date":"2024-11-27T17:54:09","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T00:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=600495"},"modified":"2024-11-27T17:54:09","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T00:54:09","slug":"american-record-earns-claire-curzan-acc-swimmer-of-the-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/american-record-earns-claire-curzan-acc-swimmer-of-the-week\/","title":{"rendered":"American Record Earns Claire Curzan ACC Swimmer of the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>American Record Earns Claire Curzan ACC Swimmer of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Virginia sophomore <strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> was named the ACC Women\u2019s Swimmer of the Week <a href=\"https:\/\/theacc.com\/news\/2024\/11\/26\/acc-names-swimming-diving-performers-of-the-week.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by the conference on Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford\u2019s <strong>Henry McFadden<\/strong> was the men\u2019s swimmer of the week. <strong>Max Fowler<\/strong> of Georgia Tech and Duke\u2019s <strong>Margo O\u2019Meara<\/strong> garnered the diving honors.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Curzan supplied one of the highlights in a star-studded Tennessee Invitational. Her time of 1:47.24 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tennessee-invitational-claire-curzan-shatters-american-record-in-200-back-first-ever-under-147\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the 200 backstroke<\/a> set the American, NCAA and U.S. Open records. She also won the 100 backstroke in 49.37 and finished second in the 100 butterfly in 49.50. Curzan was part of the Cavaliers\u2019 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relays, with UVA setting nation-leading times in all three.<\/p>\n<p>McFadden won three events at the SMU Invitational, which the Cardinal won. He set a best time in the 500 freestyle at 4:14.35 to win. He also tallied wins in the 200 free (1:32.59) and 200 fly (1:43.14), with all three NCAA B cuts. McFadden was the anchor on the men\u2019s 400 free relay that set an NCAA A cut of 2:47.89 in a victory.<\/p>\n<p>Fowler was part of the host Yellow Jackets finishing fourth at their home invitational. The sophomore won all three diving events with Zone-qualifying scores. His tally of 429.40 on 3-meter was his highest. He also scored 398.00 to prevail on 1-meter and 340.40 to capture platform. The honor is Fowler\u2019s second of the season.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Meara is also being honored for the second time. The Duke senior shined at the Wolfpack Elite GAC Invitational in Greensboro, sweeping the springboard events. She scored 326.10 to win 1-meter and 349.10 on 3-meter.
