Gold<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Ruta Meilutyte\u00a0<\/strong>heads to Budapest for the short-course worlds as part of a 12-strong Lithuania team to conclude a year in which she has experienced world title joy, Olympic disappointment and injury.<\/p>\n<p>Meilutyte <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-8-finals-ruta-meilutyte-bounces-back-for-third-consecutive-50-breast-title\/\">won the 50m breaststroke for the third straight World Championships<\/a> in Doha in February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ruta-meilutyte-undergoes-surgery-on-foot-injury-as-paris-beckons\/\">before having to undergo surgery<\/a> for a foot injury weeks later and less than five months before the start of Paris 2024.<\/p>\n<p>She failed to make the final in the French capital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/paris-olympics-day-2-semifinals-tatjana-smith-targeting-gold-in-100-breaststroke-mona-mcsharry-and-lilly-king-lurking\/\">as she finished 11th in the semis<\/a> in 1:06.89, 2.54secs off her European record of 1:04.35 that has stood since the 2013 worlds in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old heads to Hungary with seven world s\/c medals since making her debut in Istanbul in 2012, months after winning the Olympic 100br title in London aged 15.<\/p>\n<p>Among her silverware are four golds including three in the 50m in which she is reigning champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-six-womens-finals-ruta-meilutyte-punctuates-superb-comeback-year-with-50-breaststroke-gold\/\">following gold at Melbourne 2022<\/a> where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-world-championships-day-five-semifinals-ruta-meilutyte-blasts-world-record-in-50-breaststroke\/\">she set
