AMES, Iowa, October 18. TEXAS A&M freshman swimmer Rebecca Sturdy won all three of her individual events and came from behind on the final relay to help push A&M to dual meet wins over Iowa State and Missouri at Beyer Pool on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Sturdy, a true freshman from Anacortes, Wash., earned wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.99), 200 backstroke (2:01.25) and 200 individual medley (2:06.58) before swimming a 49.96 100-yard freestyle anchor leg to lead the Aggies to the win in the 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
"Rebecca had an outstanding day winning three events with three good solid swims in three really different events," A&M head coach Steve Bultman said. "She gives us a lot of versatility, that's for sure."<\/p>\n
The Aggies beat Missouri in a dual meet for the first time ever and did so convincingly, 166.5-97.5. A&M also topped host Iowa State 195-105 to run its record to a spotless 3-0 on the season.<\/p>\n
"We're thrilled to do get them after they beat us in dual meets the last two years," Bultman said. "It's always nice to return the favor. They are a good dual meet team. We had to be prepared and ready to be able to beat them."<\/p>\n
The Aggies began the meet by capturing the 200 medley relay. Courtney Patterson, Erin Briskie, Millie Reynolds and Danielle Townsend enabled the Aggies to jump out to the lead by beating Missouri 1:45.05-1:46.37. Each of those four swimmers went on to win an individual race later on in the meet to help increase A&M's total score.<\/p>\n
The quartet of Ewelina Zwierzykowski, Townsend, Katy Lieb and Sturdy won the 400 free relay 3:29.47 to 3:30.18 to end the meet.<\/p>\n
Freshman Jenna Wheeler won the 200 fly, defeating Big 12 champion Rebecca Wolfe of Missouri 2:04.65 to 2:04.72. Sophomore Alida DiPlacido, captured the three-meter diving competition with a score of 244.25.<\/p>\n
Junior Tiffany Moore led a 1-2-3-4 Aggie finish in the 500 freestyle by finishing in a time of 5:05.34. Juniors Katie Fancher and Casey Mucha and freshman Meghan Nebera finished behind Moore to rack up 21 points for the Aggies in one event.<\/p>\n
Other Aggies winning events on Saturday were Patterson, 100 back (56.84); Briskie, 100 breast (1:04.22); Townsend, 100 free (51.46) and Reynolds, 100 fly (57.36). <\/p>\n
The Aggies' next dual meet will be at Arkansas at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
