Halle West, Canadian National Age Group Record Hold, Picks Cal For 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>The University of California, Berkeley, has received a new verbal commitment for Fall 2026 from\u00a0Halle West\u00a0<\/strong>of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.<\/p>\n

Her older siser,\u00a0Mia West<\/strong>, is currently a freshman on Cal’s roster. Their mother,\u00a0Riley Mants West<\/strong>, competed for Canada at the 1996 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

She will join\u00a0Kelsey Zhang<\/strong><\/a>, Ava de Anda<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Isabel Wolk<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as a member of the Golden Bears\u2019 Class of 2030.<\/p>\n

Regarding her commitment, she said:<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter very careful consideration I am absolutely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of California, Berkeley! I want to thank my family, friends, teammates, teachers, coach Szilvie, and previous coaches for their endless help and support. I also want to give a special thank you to the coaches at Cal for their guidance and giving me this incredible opportunity. I can\u2019t wait to be a part of such an amazing team and to see what the future has in store\u2026 GO BEARS!!!!”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

West represents Canada internationally. She placed seventh in the 100m breast and 11th in the 200m IM this past summer at Junior Pan Pac Championships. Last fall, she finished ninth in the 50m breast at the World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n

In January 2023, West clocked in a time of 1:08.09 to win the 100 breast (SCM) at the 2023 New Year\u2019s Invitational. That broke a 35-year-old Canadian National Age Group Record by 0.79.<\/p>\n
