{"id":599596,"date":"2024-11-16T09:14:04","date_gmt":"2024-11-16T16:14:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=599596"},"modified":"2024-11-16T10:28:33","modified_gmt":"2024-11-16T17:28:33","slug":"michael-phelps-to-compete-on-tnts-the-match-superstars-with-wahlberg-gretzky-barkley-griffey-jr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-phelps-to-compete-on-tnts-the-match-superstars-with-wahlberg-gretzky-barkley-griffey-jr\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Phelps to Compete on TNT&#8217;s &#8216;The Match: Superstars&#8217; With Wahlberg, Gretzky, Barkley, Griffey Jr."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Olympic legend <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong> has long been a golf enthusiast &#8211; and is quite good on the links.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-phelps-and-katie-ledecky-featured-in-popular-youth-book-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he<\/a> will test his skills in a celebrity tournament called &#8220;The Match: Superstars,&#8221; a TNT program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Match is LOADED with star power \ud83d\udd25 Catch me on The Match: Superstars Nov. 21 and 22 on TNT! @tntsportsus,&#8221; Michael Phelps wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament in Las Vegas will be live on TNT Nov. 21-22 and will be available for live streaming on Max.<\/p>\n<p>The team formatted tournament will feature some of the world&#8217;s greatest athletes and entertainers.<\/p>\n<p>Athletes include hockey legend <strong>Wayne Gretzky<\/strong>, baseball legend <strong>Ken Griffey Jr.<\/strong>, Dream Team legend <strong>Charles Barkley<\/strong> and NBA All-Star and dunk specialist <strong>Blake Griffin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Movie stars <strong>Bill Murray, Mark Wahlberg<\/strong> and comedian <strong>Nate Bargatze<\/strong> are also slated to appear.<\/p>\n<p>The teams are pairs and Michael Phelps will team with Wahlberg and will face Bargatze and Griffin in the first round.<\/p>\n<p>The other pairing will see Murray and Gretzky against Barkley and Griffey Jr.<\/p>\n<p>After the opening pairs round, there will be a semifinal and final with the winner taking home $1 million to a charity of their choice.<\/p>\n<p>Phelps has played in several Pro-Am events over the years and golf has gone from a hobby to what he calls an obsession.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m just obsessed,&#8221; Michael Phelps told Boardroom. &#8220;I got my wife obsessed too, which is nice so we get to get out and play a ton. I&#8217;m a super competitive human, so being able to play golf and compete with anybody you possibly play with is so cool. I can go out and play with (Jon) Rahm and he gives me a ton of shots, but I still compete.
