﻿{"id":599153,"date":"2024-11-08T18:40:18","date_gmt":"2024-11-09T01:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=599153"},"modified":"2024-11-08T18:40:18","modified_gmt":"2024-11-09T01:40:18","slug":"michigan-sweeps-events-to-win-instate-battle-with-oakland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michigan-sweeps-events-to-win-instate-battle-with-oakland\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Sweeps Events to Win Instate Battle With Oakland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Michigan Sweeps Events to Win Instate Battle With Oakland<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women&#8217;s swimming and diving team won every event it competed in on its way to defeating Oakland 202-92 on Friday (Nov. 8) at Canham Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>The quartet of <strong>Anna Boemer, Josie Connelly, Lindsay Flynn<\/strong> and <strong>Letitia Sim<\/strong> got the meet off to a winning start with the top time in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:39.95.<\/p>\n<p>Two freshmen &#8212; <strong>Rebecca Diaconescu<\/strong> and <strong>Marian Ploger<\/strong> &#8212; took control in the 1,650-yard freestyle event. Diaconsecu took first with a mark of 16:19.43 while Ploger touched the wall at 16:31.17 to finish second overall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hannah Bellard<\/strong> took her first win of the meet in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.10. <strong>Ella Jo Piersma<\/strong> put in a strong effort, clocking a 1:49.71 to finish second. Flynn finished close behind in third with a mark of 1:49.84.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lily Cleason<\/strong> kept the momentum going with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke, logging a time of 55.18. <strong>Brady Kendall<\/strong> and <strong>Natalie Kan<\/strong> took second and third to complete another sweep for U-M.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malia Amuan<\/strong> was the next Wolverine to secure a win against the Golden Grizzlies, posting a time of 1:06.49 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Freshman<strong> Sophia Jahn<\/strong> finished second with a mark of 1:07.03.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephanie Balduccini<\/strong> grabbed a win in her first appearance in the pool, taking first in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:59.92.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abbey Ketslakh<\/strong> took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.44 seconds, narrowly defeating Connelly for the top spot. <strong>Christey Liang<\/strong> locked down the win in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 50.50.<\/p>\n<p>Cleason swept the individual backstroke events with a 200-yard backstroke time of 1:59.49 to outlast the field. Bellard secured her second victory of the evening, clocking a 2:22.76 in the 200-yard breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madison Smith<\/strong> came out on top in the final distance event of the meet, winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.26. Bellard took win number three in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 53.91.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chrismon Clark<\/strong> took the one-meter dive event with a score of 283.85, and<strong> Evie Johnson<\/strong> won the three-meter dive with a score of 282.50.<\/p>\n<p>Kan wrapped up the individual events with a triumph in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:04.36.<\/p>\n<p>The team of Balduccini, Boemer, Kendall and Liang closed out the win with a first-place result in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:22.43.<\/p>\n<p>Up next, Michigan will head to Atlanta to take part in the Georgia Tech Invitational. The three-day meet gets underway on Friday, Nov. 22 with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 5 p.m. each day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More College News<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan men&#8217;s swimming and diving moved to 2-0 on the season with a 202-92 win over Oakland,<\/p>\n<p>The team of <strong>Jaeddan Gamilla, Colin Geer, Jacque Wenger<\/strong> and <strong>Logan Zucker<\/strong> earned the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:28.22 to get the dual meet off to a strong start.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Jon J\u00f8ntvedt<\/strong> dominated the rest of the field in the 1,650-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 15:14.06. <strong>Eduardo Moraes<\/strong> and<strong> Joshua Brown<\/strong> completed the sweep with times of 15:25.21 and 15:36.67, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Geer took his first individual win of the day with the top time in the 200 free, posting a mark of 1:38.00. <strong>Logan Zucker<\/strong> and <strong>William Savarese<\/strong> grabbed second and third to cement the second straight event sweep for the Wolverines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eitan Ben-Shitrit<\/strong> grabbed the win in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 49.37 seconds while <strong>Gal Groumi<\/strong> finished third with a time of 49.99.<\/p>\n<p>Gamilla took care of business in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning the race with a time of 54.66, nearly a second faster than the next-closest swimmer.<\/p>\n<p>Another freshman, <strong>Lorne Wigginton<\/strong>, posted the top time in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking a 1:47.30. <strong>Inbar Danziger<\/strong> and <strong>Maciej Gabrys<\/strong> finished off the sweep with second and third-place results, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Graduate student <strong>Bence Szabados<\/strong> looked true to form in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the race with a mark of 19.98. <strong>Jack Wilkening<\/strong> grabbed his first win of the meet in the 100 free, touching the wall at 44.56.<\/p>\n<p>Danziger took first in the 200 back with a mark of 1:47.65, and Gamilla swept the breaststroke events with a win in the 200-yard race and a time of 2:01.06.<\/p>\n<p>Wigginton shined in the 500-yard freestyle, winning the event by nearly 10 seconds and posting a time of 4:24.87.<\/p>\n<p>In diving,<strong> Cameron Gammage<\/strong> swept both events, posting scores of 358.80 and 376.25 on the one-meter and three-meter springboards, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Gamilla secured his third win of the day with a time of 1:49.73 in the 200-yard IM.
