The next summer, the Hungarian youngster walked away from La Defense Arena in Paris with the most-treasured piece of hardware in the sport &#8211; an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/paris-olympics-day-6-hubert-kos-outduels-apostolos-christou-to-200-back-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Olympic gold medal<\/a>. Clearly, Kos is an athlete who rises to the occasion and thrives in pressurized situations.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Kos &#8211; known as Hubi &#8211; joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rPisN2s_1Wc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social Kick Podcast<\/a> and discussed his career with co-hosts John Mullen, Bryan Lundquist and Luke Paddington. Of course, claiming an Olympic title was a focal point of the Social Kick interview, and Kos explained how he managed to successfully navigate the nine-day meet. In the final of the 200 backstroke, Kos stormed down the last 50 meters to prevail in 1:54.26, more than a half-second clear of silver medalist Apostolos Christou of Greece, who touched in 1:54.82.<\/p>\n<p>Kos also discussed the mentorship of coach Bob Bowman and training with the high-powered group that Bowman has assembled at the University of Texas. Kos initially competed at Arizona State University, helping the Sun Devils to the NCAA title last March. When Bowman accepted the head-coaching role at Texas, Kos transferred to compete for the Longhorns.<\/p>\n<p>By becoming an Olympic champion, Kos added to the rich history of Hungarian swimming. The nation has also produced Olympic titlists such as Krisztina Egerszegi, Tamas Darnyi and Daniel Gyurta, among others.<\/p>\n<p><em>Swimming World is thrilled to partner with the Social Kick Podcast
