The Wolfpack\u2019s 12th-ranked women claimed a 222-131 win over the No. 18 Sun Devils.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day meet included three ASU school records on Saturday and three Casey Aquatic Center marks set by the Wolfpack.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ilya-kharun-leads-arizona-state-men-to-slight-lead-over-nc-state-leah-shackley-shines-in-wolfpack-debut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day 1 Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/news\/2024\/10\/26\/swim-dive-no-6-sun-devil-men-outpace-no-5-wolfpack-no-18-sun-devil-women-post-diligent-effort-against-no-12-wolfpack.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day 2 Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kharun went 43.95 in the 100 fly to clip three tenths off his record from last season. He also led off the 200 free relay in 18.59, which ties the program record and marks a big step forward for the bronze medalist in the 200 butterfly at the Paris Olympics in terms of his speed.<\/p>\n<p>ASU\u2019s <strong>Caroline Bentz<\/strong> hearkened back to her roots in the ACC with a 200 backstroke time of 1:53.11, the grad student and Virginia Tech transfer setting a program record. That time was only third in the race, though, with NC State freshman <strong>Erika Pelaez<\/strong> blitzing the pool record with a 1:50.71.<\/p>\n<p>NC State\u2019s <strong>Kyle Ponsler<\/strong> set a pool mark in the 400 individual medley, his time of 3:46.23 just .35 ahead of <strong>Michael Hochwalt<\/strong> of Arizona State for the win, with <strong>Cale Martter<\/strong> third in 4:36.90.<\/p>\n<p>Hungarian Olympian <strong>David Betlehem<\/strong> set the pool record in the 1,000 free, his time of 8:47.17 getting the win over teammate <strong>Lance Norris.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ASU started the day with a win in the men\u2019s 400 medley relay by nearly 3.5 seconds. <strong>Lucien Vergnes, Andy Dobrzanski,<\/strong> Kharun (in 43.99) and <strong>Jonny Kulow<\/strong> comprised that squad. <strong>Filip Senc-Samardzic<\/strong> was third in the 100 fly behind Kharun and <strong>Luke Miller<\/strong> of NC State.<\/p>\n<p>The Sun Devils swept the 200 breast podium, Dobrzanski winning in 1:54.14, .17 ahead of Vergnes with Oscar Bilbao third. ASU also cashed in on the 100 free, <strong>Patrick Sammon<\/strong> winning in 41.80, .16 ahead of Kulow. ASU won by exactly a second in the 200 free relay, Kharun, Sammon, <strong>Tommy Palmer<\/strong> and Kulow (18.52) going 1:15.11. <strong>Lane Stallworth<\/strong> added a score of 301.20 to win diving for ASU.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Ponsler and Betlehem, <strong>Daniel Diehl<\/strong> led a sweep in the 200 back for NC State, the birthday boy winning in 1:40.68, edging <strong>JT Ewing<\/strong> by .36 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, NC State flexed its depth again. Pelaez and <strong>Kennedy Noble<\/strong> went 1-2 in the 200 back. <strong>Leah Shackley<\/strong> blasted a time of 51.47 to win the 100 fly. Pelaez returned to go 47.98, routing the field in the 100 free, more than 1.5 seconds ahead of teammate <strong>Casaundra Moses.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Wolfpack won both women\u2019s relays on the second day. Noble, <strong>Grace Sheble,<\/strong> Shackley and <strong>Lily Christianson<\/strong> clocked in at 3:32.18 in the 400 medley. Christianson, <strong>Tyler Driscoll,<\/strong> Moses and Pelaez (21.63 anchor) went 1:28.15 in the 200 free. <strong>Ashton Zuburg<\/strong> scored 251.85 for an NC State sweep on 1-meter.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State\u2019s distance contingent shined. <strong>Deniz Ertan<\/strong> picked up a pair of wins, her time of 4:10.83 in the 400 IM two tenths up on NC State\u2019s <strong>Lisa Nystrand.<\/strong> Nystrand was also second by .09 seconds to ASU\u2019s <strong>Emma Gehlert<\/strong> in the 200 breast, Gehlert winning in 2:10.66.
