{"id":598221,"date":"2024-10-25T20:52:02","date_gmt":"2024-10-26T03:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=598221"},"modified":"2024-10-25T20:52:02","modified_gmt":"2024-10-26T03:52:02","slug":"nebraska-rolls-past-iowa-state-behind-gena-jorgenson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nebraska-rolls-past-iowa-state-behind-gena-jorgenson\/","title":{"rendered":"Nebraska Rolls past Iowa State Behind Gena Jorgenson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nebraska captured 13 individual titles and swept a pair of relay crowns on its way to a 202-94 women&#8217;s swimming and diving victory over Iowa State at the Devaney Natatorium on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>All-American <strong>Gena Jorgenson<\/strong> led the Huskers with a trio of individual victories, while Maia Hall, <strong>Maisie Gilford<\/strong> and <strong>Beatrix Tanko<\/strong> each added a pair of individual titles for the Big Red. Gilford and Tanko were also part of both relay wins in Nebraska&#8217;s most complete effort of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>Abby Baxter<\/strong> added to Nebraska&#8217;s hardware haul by sweeping the one-meter and three-meter diving titles, as the Huskers dominated in the well by sweeping the top spots in both diving events.<\/p>\n<p>Jorgenson, a Husker captain from Aberdeen, S.D., who earned first-team All-America honors in the 1,650 free last season, shined in her first swim at that distance this season. The junior cruised to victory in 16:08.14, before adding a win in the 500 free (4:59.39). She capped her day with a victory in the 200 backstroke (2:02.65), while also swimming a leg on NU&#8217;s winning 400 freestyle relay team.<\/p>\n<p>Gilford raced to victory in the 50 free (23.61) and 100 free (51.68), while adding to Husker wins in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n<p>Tanko matched Gilford&#8217;s contributions by notching individual wins in the 200 freestyle (1:52.20) and 100 butterfly (57.11) while joining Gilford in both relay victories.<\/p>\n<p>Hall swept the breaststroke events for the Huskers, producing a time of 1:03.68 in the 100, while posting a 2:18.57 in the 200 breast. Hall was also a member of NU&#8217;s second-place 200 medley relay that finished with a time of 1:46.61.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Marissa Laurin<\/strong> claimed her first collegiate individual title by swimming to victory in the 200 individual medley (2:06.17).
