Louisville Sweeps Tennessee as Daria Golvaty, Denis Petrashov Lead the Way<\/strong><\/p>\n

Louisville defended the Ralph Wright Natatorium Thursday afternoon when the Tennessee Volunteers made the drive northwest to take on the Cardinals. Louisville’s women emerged with a narrow, 16-point win, scoring 157 points to Tennessee’s 143, while the men’s meet was a bigger Louisville win, with a score of 178.5-121.5.<\/p>\n

Tennessee held off Louisville’s women to win the opening 200 medley relay, with Camille Spink<\/strong> splitting 21.35 on the anchor leg to pull away from Louisville’s Gabi Albiero<\/strong> and get the win in 1:36.15. Josephine Fuller<\/strong>,\u00a0McKenzie Siroky<\/strong> and\u00a0Brooklyn Douthwright<\/strong> also swam for Tennessee.<\/p>\n

Louisville’s\u00a0Daria Golvaty<\/strong> set the pace for the home team with a 9.5-second win in the 1000 freestyle, clocking 9:38.80. Fifth-year swimmer Paige Hetrick<\/strong> then won the 200 free in 1:45.12, but Tennessee built momentum after that.<\/p>\n

Fuller snagged first place in the 100 backstroke (52.26), and the Vols then went 1-2 in the next two events: Emelie Fast<\/strong> topped the 100 breaststroke (59.51) ahead of Siroky (59.92), and then Emily Brown<\/strong> won the 200 butterfly in 1:55.62, just ahead of teammates Sara Stotler<\/strong> and\u00a0Ella Jansen<\/strong>. On either side of the diving break,\u00a0Spink posted strong wins in the 50 free (21.87) and 100 free (47.30), and Fuller doubled up with a win in the 200 back (1:52.04).<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Louisville had\u00a0Lindsay Gizzi<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>win 1-meter diving (278.85), but momentum was not restored in the racing pool until\u00a0Mia Cheatwood<\/strong> clocked 2:08.51 for the win in the 200 breast, with teammate\u00a0Kim Herkle<\/strong> second. From there, the Cardinals would not lose another event. Golvaty won again in the 500 free (4:38.79), and in the ensuing 100 fly, Ella Welch<\/strong> (51.89) and Albiero (52.16) claimed the top-two spots.<\/p>\n

Gizzi won again in 3-meter diving (290.33), followed by\u00a0Fernanda Gomes Celidonio\u00a0<\/strong>winning the 200 IM in 1:57.75, with Herkle taking second (1:58.35), and the team of\u00a0Caroline Larsen<\/strong>,\u00a0Julia Dennis<\/strong>, Albiero and\u00a0Ella Welch<\/strong> put a stamp on the meet with a winning time of 3:12.26 in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n
