{"id":598108,"date":"2024-10-24T11:40:57","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T18:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=598108"},"modified":"2024-10-24T11:40:57","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T18:40:57","slug":"indiana-olympians-dominate-as-hoosiers-handle-notre-dame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/indiana-olympians-dominate-as-hoosiers-handle-notre-dame\/","title":{"rendered":"Indiana Olympians dominate as Hoosiers Handle Notre Dame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Indiana Olympians dominate as Hoosiers Handle Notre Dame<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Indiana\u2019s core of Olympians dominated matters in an in-state dual meet Wednesday with Notre Dame in Bloomington, a raft of exhibitions keeping the scoreline deceptively close at 167-134.<\/p>\n<p>The Hoosiers won every event and would\u2019ve been 1-2 in all but one if not for exhibitions in a dominant display rooted in their freestyle depth.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/iuhoosiers.com\/documents\/2024\/10\/23\/02_NotreDame.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-ten-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Ten Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The headliner race of the day was a compelling battle in the 50 freestyle, won by <strong>Sze Yeo<\/strong> in 22.87 seconds. She edged <strong>Anna Peplowski<\/strong> and <strong>Kristina Paegle,<\/strong> who tied for second in 22.90.<\/p>\n<p>Peplowski won the 50 free in 49.55, .11 seconds up on Paegle. Open water Olympian <strong>Mariah Denigan<\/strong> swept the distance events, going 9:59.64 in the 1,000 to edge teammate <strong>Elyse Heiser<\/strong> by just under three seconds. In the 500, Denigan won in 4:49.41, with <strong>Ching Gan<\/strong> second in 4:49.63 and Peplowski third in 4:49.92, though both were exhibition swims. Heiser also broke five minutes in 4:57.78.<\/p>\n<p>Gan won the 200 free in 1:48.53. She held off Notre Dame\u2019s <strong>Carli Cronk,<\/strong> who went 1:48.76 in the closest the Fighting Irish came to a victory on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana won both relays, capped by Peplowski, <strong>Mya DeWitt, Kacey McKenna<\/strong> and Paegle going 3:21.26 in the 400 free. McKenna and Paegle book-ended the 200 medley that won in 1:39.38.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Miranda Grana<\/strong> had a fast meet, booking three NCAA B cuts. She won the 100 backstroke in 51.62, her margin over runner-up DeWitt 2.41 seconds. Grana went 1:52.81 to dominate the 200 back and 53.04 to win the 100 butterfly. <strong>Ava Whitaker<\/strong> added a B cut in the 200 fly of 1:57.14. <strong>Brearna Crawford<\/strong> swept the breaststroke events in 1:02.27 and 2:14.50. Grana and Crawford comprised the middle two legs of the winning medley relay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anna Freed<\/strong> wrapped up the win by capturing the 200 individual medley in 2:03.12.
