{"id":597528,"date":"2024-10-13T11:16:21","date_gmt":"2024-10-13T18:16:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=597528"},"modified":"2024-10-13T11:16:21","modified_gmt":"2024-10-13T18:16:21","slug":"maddy-huggins-sets-florida-state-record-in-split-with-georgia-tech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/maddy-huggins-sets-florida-state-record-in-split-with-georgia-tech\/","title":{"rendered":"Maddy Huggins Sets Florida State Record in Split with Georgia Tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Maddy Huggins Sets Florida State Record in Split with Georgia Tech<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Maddy Huggins<\/strong> set the Florida State program record in the women\u2019s 200 breaststroke as the Seminoles split an ACC dual meet with Georgia Tech.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida State women claimed a 162-138 win in Tallahassee, while the Georgia Tech men prevailed, 174.5-125.5.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ramblinwreck.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Georgia-Tech-at-Florida-State-results-2024-25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Huggins won the 200 breast in 2:07.98, beating the field by more than four seconds. Her time cut more than a second off the mark of 2:08.57 set in 2021 by <strong>Nina Kucheran.<\/strong> Huggins also won the 100 breast in 59.51 and finished second to teammate <strong>Edith Jernstedt<\/strong> in the 200 individual medley. Huggins swam breaststroke on Florida State\u2019s winning 200 medley relay to kick off the meet.<\/p>\n<p>Jernstedt showed her versatility by winning the 200 butterfly and finishing second in the 100 fly. The Seminoles got a boost out of the gates by going 1-3 in the medley relay, then 1-2-3 in the 1,000 free, led by <strong>Julia Brzozowski,<\/strong> who was also third in the 500. Georgia Tech hit right back with a 1-2-3 in the 200 free led by <strong>Sophie Murphy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Evans,<\/strong> who led off the winning medley relay, claimed the 100 back. The anchor of the medley relay, <strong>Gloria Muzito,<\/strong> finished second in the 50 free and 100 free. The big difference was diving, with <strong>Kayleigh Clark<\/strong> sweeping both events for the Seminoles. She led a 1-2 with <strong>Evelyn Hall<\/strong> on 1-meter and a podium sweep on 3-meter.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia Tech\u2019s freestyle prowess kept it close. After being on the wrong side of the 1,000 sweep, Murphy went 1:46.59 to pace the field in the 200 free. Second was <strong>Zara Masud,<\/strong> who edged out Murphy to win the 500 free and finished third in the 200 fly. Murphy won the 100 free in 49.64, with Georgia Tech\u2019s 50 free winner <strong>Anna Hadjiloizou<\/strong> third. <strong>Phoebe Wright,<\/strong> who had been third in the 200 free, won the 200 back. <strong>Zora Ripkova<\/strong> won the 100 fly and was the runner-up in the 200.<\/p>\n<p>Like the Florida State women, the Georgia Tech men\u2019s win was predicated on an early sweep in the 1,000 free. <strong>Mert Kilavuz<\/strong> led the way in 9:01.16, followed to the wall by <strong>Lukas Vetkoetter<\/strong> and <strong>Charles Perks.<\/strong> Kilavuz led a similar sweep in the 500, his 4:23.54 edging Vetkoetter by a half second, with <strong>Vitor Sega<\/strong> third.<\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the spectrum, the Yellow Jackets went 1-2 in the 50 free, <strong>Leandro Odorici\u2019s<\/strong> 20.13 edging <strong>Robin Yeboah<\/strong> by .08 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Berke Saka<\/strong> did the backstroke double and added the 200 IM title for Tech. <strong>Joao Caballero<\/strong> won both breaststroke events. Antonio Romero prevailed by .17 seconds in the 200 fly. Max Fowler won both diving events for Ga. Tech.<\/p>\n<p>Florida State took both relays, <strong>Sam Bork, Mason Herbet<\/strong> and <strong>Jokubas Keblys<\/strong> on each winning quartet. <strong>Yordan Yanchev<\/strong> won the 100 free and 200 free. Third in the 200 was <strong>Logan Robinson,<\/strong> who won the 100 fly and was the 200 fly runner-up.
