{"id":597250,"date":"2024-10-06T12:51:17","date_gmt":"2024-10-06T19:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=597250"},"modified":"2024-10-06T12:51:17","modified_gmt":"2024-10-06T19:51:17","slug":"arizona-state-opens-herbie-behm-era-in-record-fashion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arizona-state-opens-herbie-behm-era-in-record-fashion\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona State Opens Herbie Behm Era in Record Fashion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Arizona State Opens Herbie Behm Era in Record Fashion<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Arizona State men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s swimming and diving team swept UNLV in their season opener, the first wins under head coach <strong>Herbie Behm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Sun Devils won 28 events in the team&#8217;s first sweep of the 2024-25 season, including breaking a 5-year-old school record in the women&#8217;s 200-yard medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>The men won 217-83 and the women won 236-84.<\/p>\n<p>In the first race of the season, <strong>Mirham Sheehan, Iza Adame, Julia Ulman<\/strong>n and <strong>Caroline Bentz<\/strong> set the school record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.05, breaking the 2019 record set in 2019 of 1:37.26.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ilya Kharun<\/strong> won three individual races, the 100 fly, 200 fly and the 200 IM, including being a part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charli Brown<\/strong> was victorious in the 200 IM (1:59.25) and the 200 free (1:46.58).<\/p>\n<p>Making her Sun Devil debut, grad transfer <strong>Caroline Bentz<\/strong> won the 200y backstroke (1:55.29) and was part of two winning relay teams. (200-yard medley relay and the 400 free relay).<\/p>\n<p>Also in her Arizona State debut, <strong>Miriam Sheehan<\/strong> was part of the record-breaking relay.
