The multi-time Olympic champion said: &#8220;Sometimes you just need a break.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 23-year-old four-time Olympic gold medalist made the announcement via Instagram, declaring: \u201cToday I made the decision to pull out of the 2024 World Short Course team\u2026it\u2019s not something I wanted to but needed to do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe past five-year prep has been an onslaught both physically and mentally. I have continuously pursued for consistency and greatness within the work I do\u2026and sometimes you just need a break.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA break from the hype, the media, the adrenaline rush from competition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAlthough I will not be competing at the WSC I have committed to World Cups in a few weeks. I\u2019m looking forward to competing freely with no pressure and little work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just last week McKeown set her sixth world record in the 100-meter backstroke at the Australian Short Course Championships in Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>The World Cups will all be swum in Asia, starting in<strong> Shanghai,<\/strong> China, October 18-20, followed by <strong>Incheon,<\/strong> South Korea, October 24-26 and finishing up in <strong>Singapore,\u00a0<\/strong> October 31\u2013November 2.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldaquatics.com\/competitions\/3433\/world-aquatics-swimming-championships-25m-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Short Course Championships<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kaylee McKeown Announces Surprise Withdrawal from World Short Course Championships;
