{"id":596836,"date":"2024-09-28T18:16:47","date_gmt":"2024-09-29T01:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=596836"},"modified":"2024-09-28T18:16:47","modified_gmt":"2024-09-29T01:16:47","slug":"georgia-tech-swimming-opens-with-win-over-emory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/georgia-tech-swimming-opens-with-win-over-emory\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgia Tech Swimming Opens With Win Over Emory"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Georgia Tech opened the season with a dominant win over in-town foe Emory Saturday afternoon, with the men\u2019s squad winning 205-91 and the women\u2019s team defeating the Eagles 216-79.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In the meet, Tech swept the podium in 14 events: Men\u2019s 1000 free, Women\u2019s 200 free, Women\u2019s 100 back, Men\u2019s 100 back, Women\u2019s 100 breast, Women\u2019s 50 free, Women\u2019s 100 free, Men\u2019s 100 free, Women\u2019s 200 back, Men\u2019s 200 back, Women\u2019s 200 breast, Men\u2019s 500 free, Men\u2019s 1-meter diving and Women\u2019s 3-meter diving.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Georgia Tech started the day strong, taking the first nine events before the Eagles claimed event 10. The Yellow Jacket momentum did not slow down, as the Yellow Jackets held a strong lead at the first break, winning 12 of the first 14 races.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Tech came of out the meet break the same way they started the day, claiming nine events in a row. Tech closed the day with three wins in a row, totaling 27 on the day.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Multiple Jackets claimed multiple event wins, with newcomer\u00a0<b>Phoebe<\/b>\u00a0<b>Wright<\/b>\u00a0taking the 200 freestyle (1:49.80) and the 500 freestyle (4:48.22), sophomore\u00a0<b>Ricky<\/b>\u00a0<b>Balduccini<\/b>\u00a0taking the 200 free (1:38.18) and 100 free (44:81), senior\u00a0<b>Mert<\/b>\u00a0<b>Kilavus<\/b>\u00a0winning the 1000 free (9:23.90) and 500 free (4:32.68), senior\u00a0<b>Berke<\/b>\u00a0<b>Saka<\/b>\u00a0taking the 100 back (48.57), 200 back (1:47.25) and 200 IM (1:50.44) and sophomore\u00a0<b>Sabyne<\/b>\u00a0<b>Brisson<\/b>\u00a0winning the 100 breast (1:03.18) and 200 breast (2:17.32).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In the relays, Tech claimed all four events: Men and Women\u2019s 200 Medley and Men and Women\u2019s 400 Freestyle.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In the diving event, Georgia Tech took first in the 1-meter in both genders, with <b>Lizzy<\/b>\u00a0<b>Powley<\/b>\u00a0totaling a 287.40 and\u00a0<b>Max<\/b>\u00a0<b>Fowler<\/b>\u00a0totaling a 343.43. The Tech men also swept the 1-meter podium, with\u00a0<b>Elijah<\/b>\u00a0<b>Klier<\/b>\u00a0taking second (326.25) and\u00a0<b>Alex<\/b>\u00a0<b>Scott<\/b>\u00a0finishing third (321.90).
