He also dove internationally for the United States at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Yost will work with both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had a chance to be a part of this historic program as a student-athlete through both undergrad and grad school, and that experience shaped me into the person I am today,&#8221; Yost said <a href=\"https:\/\/ohiostatebuckeyes.com\/news\/2024\/9\/23\/mens-swim-dive-yost-named-assistant-diving-coach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release<\/a>. &#8220;I&#8217;m thrilled to have the opportunity to pay it forward and to make my mark as a member of the coaching staff here at The Ohio State University. I&#8217;m looking forward to working with the next generation of Buckeye divers and I know the gnarliest is yet to come. Time to get to work!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yost spent five years at Ohio State. He won the 1-meter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-mens-championships-lyle-yost-risks-it-reaps-reward-of-1-meter-crown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gold medal at NCAAs in 2023<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-mens-championships-lyle-yost-repeats-as-1-meter-champ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repeated in 2024<\/a>, the first Ohio State male swimmer or diver to repeat as an NCAA champion since the 1970s. He was the first Buckeye to win the NCAA 1-meter title since <strong>Patrick Jeffrey<\/strong> in 1988.<\/p>\n<p>The 2023 CSCAA Diver of the Year, he earned All-American honors in all three diving events. He won six career Big Ten medals (three silver, three bronze) and was a 12-time All-American (five on 1-meter, four on platform, three on 3-meter). He won the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lyle is all that is good in being a Buckeye,&#8221; Ohio State Director of Swimming and Diving <strong>Bill Dorenkott <\/strong>said. &#8220;He was the consummate student-athlete and will, no doubt, take his elite skillset into the coaching ranks. Our current and future divers will benefit from Lyle&#8217;s passion, patience and ability to bring out the best in others.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yost won the 1-meter title at Winter Nationals in 2024 and the U.S. Open in 2022. The former qualified him for the World Championships in Doha last year, where he finished ninth. He had been 13th the previous summer at Worlds in Fukuoka in the event, which is not in the Olympic program. He quailed for Olympics trials in 3-meter.<\/p>\n<p>The native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, has a bachelor\u2019s degree in Spanish (with a focus on Latin American studies) and a graduate degree in world language education, specializing in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am very excited to bring in Lyle Yost as our first ever full-time assistant diving coach in program history,&#8221; head diving coach <strong>Justin Sochor<\/strong> said. &#8220;This is long overdue, and I know that Lyle will be a great fit for our program. He has spent five years under my instruction and has a rich history with Ohio State. I can&#8217;t think of a better candidate.
