Olympic Women\u2019s Water Polo: Spain Tops Netherlands in Shootout in Classic Semifinal<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spain saw a five-goal lead evaporate, watched the Netherlands tie the game with seven seconds left then produced the only save of the shootout to make its way back to the gold-medal game with a 19-18 win Thursday in the semifinals of the women\u2019s water polo tournament at the Olympics.<\/p>\n

Elena Ruiz<\/strong> led Spain with six goals, Judith Forca<\/strong> had five and Martine Terre<\/strong> came up with the only save of the shootout to help Spain reach the Olympic final for the third time in the last four Olympics. Spain won silver in Tokyo and London, losing in the final both times to the United States. The U.S. plays Australia in the later semifinal Thursday.<\/p>\n
