BUCKHANNON, West Virginia, July 23. HEAD Coach Vic Riggs of West Virginia picked up his first major commitment for the Class of 2015 as the top recruit in the state, Maggie Miller, has elected to stay home.<\/p>\n
Miller, who trains with the Harrison Area YMCA Swim Team (HAYST) and preps at Buckhannon Upshur High, is ranked the top swimmer in the state by CollegeSwimming.com. Miller will add some immediate punch to WVU’s backstroke group. Her best career time is a 54.71 in the 100-yard backstroke from the 2014 YMCA Short Course Nationals. She also has a 2:00.00 in the 200-yard backstroke from that meet as well.<\/p>\n
Miller has actually been trained by her father Dennis since she was six years old. Dennis is an assistant volunteer coach at HAYST who works with senior and national level swimmers on the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaggie is a very talented swimmer and could swim a lot of places but she knew early on where she wanted to go, and I told her it was a good decision for her to go ahead and commit,\u201d Dennis Miller told Swimming World<\/i>. \u201cWith the recruiting process over for her, she can concentrate on her swimming, and enjoying her senior year of high school. I think Maggie will be a big asset to WVU and we will see great results from a coach like Vic Riggs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maggie, a multiple-time state champion swimmer, is really excited to remain close to home, and to focus on her final year at the high school level.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love the idea of being able to represent my home state as a part of the WVU swimming & diving team,\u201d Maggie Miller told Swimming World<\/i>. \u201cI grew up a Mountaineer and I want to remain one throughout the rest of my swimming career. West Virginia is my home.\u201d<\/p>\n
Miller also has had some success in long course competition, with a strong meet in 2012 at the YMCA Long Course Nationals. There, she clocked a 1:04.15 in the 100-meter back and a 2:18.69 in the 200-meter back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
