Paris Olympics, Day 8 Finals Heat Sheet: Gold Medalists Meet in 200 IM Final<\/strong><\/p>\n

The swimming competition at the Paris Olympics is winding down, with just eight finals remaining. Four of them will take place Saturday evening, with the men’s 100 butterfly, women’s 200 IM, women’s 800 freestyle and mixed 400 medley relay. Semifinals of the women’s 50 freestyle will also be on the docket.<\/p>\n

In the men’s 100 fly,\u00a0Kristof Milak<\/strong> will aim to improve upon the silver medal he won four years ago against a field including\u00a0Noe Ponti<\/strong>,\u00a0Josh Liendo<\/strong>,\u00a0Maxime Grousset<\/strong> and\u00a0Nyls Korstanje<\/strong>. Defending champion and world-record holder Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> did not qualify for the final.<\/p>\n

Three individual gold medalists from Paris will swim in the 200 IM final, with\u00a0Kaylee McKeown<\/strong> in lane one,\u00a0Kate Douglass<\/strong> in three and\u00a0Summer McIntosh<\/strong> in five.\u00a0Alex Walsh<\/strong>, who has won gold or silver in the event in every major international final she has competed in, wil be in lane four.<\/p>\n

Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> and\u00a0Katie Ledecky<\/strong> will swim in lanes three and four, respectively, in the 800 free final. Ledecky will be aiming for her historic fourth consecutive gold medal in the event, an accomplishment that only\u00a0Michael Phelps<\/strong> has ever reached among swimmers.<\/p>\n

In the 50 free semis,\u00a0Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> owns lane four in the second semifinal, with\u00a0Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> next to her, while\u00a0Kasia Wasick<\/strong> leads the way in heat one. The mixed 400 medley relay will conclude the session, with China, the United States and Australia favored and swimming in the middle lanes.<\/p>\n
