Are you one of those people who watches water polo players in action and wonders how, in the name of creation, they are staying afloat with what seems to be little or no effort?<\/p>\n
Do you have a sibling rivalry with a water polo player that you want to get a leg up on?<\/p>\n
Do you ever yell at one of your players for doing something you thought was so easy that it makes you nauseous to see other people do it wrong?<\/p>\n
Maybe you took sixth place out of six teams at your last Masters-level tournament and you're just looking for ways to sharpen your game.<\/p>\n
Whatever the case, the first-ever Fantasy Camp, hosted by the World Champion U.S. Women's Water Polo team, has something for you to ease your troubled, or curious water polo soul. Interested? Read on.<\/p>\n
The World Champion U.S. women's water polo team will be holding a Fantasy Camp for male and female adults (21 and over) at the USA Water Polo National Aquatic Center on November 1. The first-of-its-kind water polo clinic will welcome adults of all skill levels-beginner to advanced-for a one-day session that covers fundamentals, position training, and scrimmages. The day-long camp, which is open to the first 100 registrants, will be followed by a barbeque\/social with members of the USA National Team.<\/p>\n
"It's not often that people get to spend an entire day hanging out with, and getting instruction from, Olympic athletes and coaches," said U.S. head coach Guy Baker. "This is an awesome opportunity for anybody who loves the sport-parents, friends, family members, even Masters players."<\/p>\n
The day will be divided into three different and very distinguishable parts. A two-hour session in the morning will take all campers through some fundamentals. Following that, campers will be divided into their different groups based on experience and will be taken through position training, team tactics, and a scrimmage. Mixed into all the instruction will be lunch, question-and-answer sessions with Team USA, a highlight video of the women's gold medal performance at the 2003 World Championships, and a presentation from a keynote speaker.<\/p>\n
At the end of the day, campers will be treated to a barbeque dinner and a social mixer with the U.S. National Team.<\/p>\n
"Our athletes are always very accessible and very personable," said U.S. Water Polo Media Director Eric Velazquez. "The chance to have a sit-down discussion with past and future Olympians over some ribs and a soda doesn't come along everyday."<\/p>\n
Sign-ups for the Fantasy Camp begin now, but only the first 100 to register will be accepted. The fee for the camp, which includes lunch and dinner, is $110.
