Paris Olympics, Day 2 Finals Heat Sheet: Adam Peaty Goes For Three-Peat Among Three Finals<\/strong><\/p>\n

The second evening of finals at the Paris Olympics will include finals in the men’s 400 IM, women’s 100 butterfly and men’s 100 breaststroke as well as semifinals in the men’s and women’s 200 freestyle, women’s 100 breast and men’s 100 backstroke. The session begins at 8:30 p.m. CEST (2:30 p.m. ET in the United States) at La D\u00e9fense Arena.<\/p>\n

Leon Marchand<\/strong> will open the session in the men’s 400 IM final as the heavy favorite, and the crowd at La D\u00e9fense Arena will be roaring in hopes of Marchand delivering France’s first gold medal in swimming at these Paris Olympics and first at any Games since\u00a0Florent Manaudou<\/strong> won the 50 free 12 years ago in London. Marchand should not be challenged in this field, while\u00a0Max Litchfield<\/strong>,\u00a0Daiya Seto<\/strong> and\u00a0Carson Foster<\/strong> are the other leading contenders for the podium.<\/p>\n

Immediately afterward, the women’s 100 fly final will see two Americans as the top seeds, with\u00a0Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> and\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong> hoping to maintain those spots from semifinals, although China’s\u00a0Zhang Yufei<\/strong> and Germany’s\u00a0Angelina Kohler<\/strong> will be on either side while defending champion\u00a0Maggie Mac Neil<\/strong> is lurking.<\/p>\n

Later on, the men’s 100 breast will see\u00a0Adam Peaty\u00a0<\/strong>chasing a third consecutive gold medal in the event, and he is up against China’s\u00a0Qin Haiyang<\/strong>, with Italy’s\u00a0Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong>, the United States’\u00a0Nic Fink<\/strong> and Dutch swimmers\u00a0Arno Kamminga<\/strong> and\u00a0Caspar Corbeau<\/strong> trying to play spoiler.<\/p>\n

Semifinal action will have\u00a0Danas Rapsys<\/strong> and\u00a0David Popovici<\/strong> in lane four of their respective heats of the men’s 200 free, Tang Qianting<\/strong> and\u00a0Tatjana Smith<\/strong> in lane four in the women’s 100 breast, Pieter Coetze<\/strong> and\u00a0Hubert Kos<\/strong> entering atop the men’s 100 back and Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong> and\u00a0Mollie O’Callaghan<\/strong> seeded first in each heat of the women’s 200 free. Defending champion\u00a0Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> swims next to O’Callaghan, her Autralian teammate.<\/p>\n
