CLEMSON, SC, October 4. THE Clemson men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2003-04 seasons at home on Friday with victories over Louisiana State University. The Clemson men's team defeated LSU by a score of 252-184, while the women's team took a 290-200 decision over LSU. Both Clemson's men's and women's teams won 10 out of the 12 events that were contested at the meet held in Clemson's McHugh Natatorium. <\/p>\n
Clemson's men's team of Mark Henly, Buddy Reed and Joel Johnson won the 300 back relay with a time of 2:32.09. In the 300 breast relay, the Tigers' team of Brett MacLennan, Jordan Raynovich and Ryan Cassella finished first, posting a time of 2:57.62. Clemson's Johnson, Ben Kanoy and Bryce Herrington recorded a time of 2:38.10 for a second-place finish in the 300 fly relay. In the 400 individual medley relay, Clemson's Tommy Rappold, Cassella, Reed and Henly finished first with a time of 3:35.41. <\/p>\n
The Tigers' team of MacLennan, Jonathan Mengering and Reed won the 1500 free relay, posting a time of 14:11.06 in the event. Clemson's Brian Regone, Mengering, Greg Middleton and Charlie Dillon took second place in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:56.75. The team of James Stoffer, Scheerhorn, Buddy Reed and Hitchcock won the 500 free relay, finishing the event in 4:07.26. <\/p>\n
Clemson's team of Henly, Cassella, Kummer and Hitchcock won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:28.63. The Tigers' Hitchcock, Herrington, Mulder and Scheerhorn placed first in the 400 free relay, posting a time of 3:08.64 in the event. In the 200 free relay, Scheerhorn, Herrington, Mulder and Stoffer took first place for Clemson with a time of 1:26.00. <\/p>\n
The Tigers' Eric Shulick took first place in the one-meter diving competition with 273.53 points. Caleb Bye won the three-meter diving competition for Clemson, recording 244.13 points for the victory. <\/p>\n
The Clemson women's team took the top spot in the 300 fly relay, with the Tigers' team of Caroline Boden, Meaghan Murphy and Janelle Brodrick winning the event in 2:56.77. Clemson's 300 back relay team of Lindsey Kroeger, Kelly Urso and Kate Walker won the event, posting a time of 2:53.91 while the team of Caitlin Bissell, Sarah Cefalu and Ashley Shafer finished with a time of 3:22.65 to take first place in the 300 breast relay. The Tigers' Lindsey Kroeger, Cefalu, Shelly Klaus and Briana Brotherson won the 400 individual medley relay, recording a time of 4:07.43 for the win. <\/p>\n
The Tigers' Kim Cober, Nichole Carlton and Kim Routh won the 1500 free relay with a time of 15:18.25. In the 800 free relay, the Tiger women's team of Christine Anseeuw, Aurelie Gresset, Routh and Nicole Kroeger finished first with a time of 7:40.03. The same team also combined to win the 500 free relay, finishing the event with a time of 4:39.95. <\/p>\n
Clemson's team of Nicole Kroeger, Shafer, Courtney Humes and Anseeuw placed first in the 400 medley relay, posting a time of 3:56.17 in the event. In the 400 free relay, the Tigers' Anseeuw, Gresset, Shafer and Boden combined to win the event with a time of 3:34.84. The Tigers' 200 free relay team of Nikki Deering, Boden, Amanda Vaughan and Callie Deters recorded a time of 1:38.74 for a first-place finish. <\/p>\n
In the diving events, Jessica Watcke led Clemson in the one-meter competition, finishing third with a score of 226.73 points. Cristina Curtuneanu posted 200.55 points for the Tigers to place fourth in the three-meter. <\/p>\n
The Tigers will hold their annual Orange & White intrasquad meet next Friday in Clemson. The meet, which was originally scheduled for Saturday morning, was changed due to the 12:00 p.m. start time scheduled for the Clemson vs. Virginia football game.
