COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, July 18. SUPERSTAR Katie Ledecky keeps turning heads, and she did it again tonight at the Potomac Valley Long Course State Championships in Maryland. <\/p>\n
Ledecky blasted her way to a sterling time of 1:55.79 in the women’s 200-meter free. That swim moved her from sixth in the world with a 1:56.27 from the Mesa stop of the Arena Grand Prix to fourth in the world. Only Sarah Sjostrom (1:55.04), Emma McKeon (1:55.68) and Federica Pellegrini (1:55.69) have been faster this year. Leah Smith finished second in 1:58.2, while Hanna Borgersen turned in a third-place 2:01.98. <\/p>\n
Cassidy Bayer, 14, gave the 13-14 National Age Group record a run in the women’s 100-meter fly with a 59.75 for the win. That’s just off Kendyl Stewart’s 2009 mark of 59.51. Ellen Williamson took home second-place honors in 59.88 with Janet Hu placing third in 1:00.43. <\/p>\n
Jack Conger clinched the men’s 200-meter free in 1:49.97 with Andrew Seliskar chasing down second in 1:50.92. Rodney Fentress placed third overall in 1:55.02. Seliskar returned with a 54.32 to win the men’s 100-meter fly. Ben Southern took second in 56.17 with Colin Schwartz placing third in 57.00. <\/p>\n
Jenna Van Camp cruised to victory in the women’s 100-meter breast with a 1:10.34 with Natalie Martin taking second in 1:13.14. Jaycee Yegher earned third in 1:13.99. Molly Kowal clinched the women’s 400-meter IM in 4:55.26. Megan Byrnes (4:55.67) and Kylie Jordan (4:55.83) closed out the close finish in the distance medley. <\/p>\n
Carsten Vissering hit the wall in 1:03.18 to edge Andrew Schuehler (1:03.21) for the men’s 100-meter breast title. Patrick Olson earned third-place honors in 1:03.95. Andrew Gemmell claimed the men’s 400-meter IM title in 4:26.96. Austin Quinn (4:31.77) and Cory Camp (4:34.27) finished second and third. <\/p>\n
