WISCONSIN Aquatics dominated the first night of finals at the Speedo Champions Series Sectional meet at the University of Iowa Aquatic Center, led by Nicholas Caldwell\u2019s double in the 200 fly and 800 free. Wisconsin Aquatics leads the team standings after day one with 330 points, more than triple Minnesota Aquatics\u2019 101 points and Nasa Wildcat Aquatics\u2019 98.<\/p>\n

Wisconsin Aquatics kicked off the first night of finals with a 1-2 finish in the women\u2019s 100 free. Aja Van Hout led the way in 55.86, less than two tenths ahead of teammate Ivy Martin, who touched in 56.00. Katherine Drabot of Ozaukee Aquatics came in third in 56.98. The men\u2019s 100 free final turned out to be even closer, as Connor Black, competing unattached for Illinois, touched just one one-hundredth ahead of Wisconsin Aquatics\u2019 Brett Pinfold, 50.67 to 50.68. Derek Toomey of Badger Aquatics rounded out the top three in 51.02.<\/p>\n

Haley Spencer of the University of Minnesota had no trouble wrapping up the women\u2019s 200 breast title as she won convincingly in 2:28.62, a new pool record. Emily McClellan, who competes collegiately for Wisconsin-Milwaukee, finished second in 2:31.16, while Jennifer Holtzen of Wisconsin Aquatics claimed third in 2:34.36. Jae Park of Nasa Wildcat Aquatics topped the men\u2019s 200 breast field in 2:16.51, just over a second ahead of Wisconsin Aquatics\u2019 Jacob Mandli (2:17.72). Michael Weiss, also of Wisconsin Aquatics, raced to a third place finish in 2:20.11.<\/p>\n

Schroeder YMCA Swim Team\u2019s Hannah Saiz picked up her first individual win of the meet with a 2:14.49 in the 200 fly, a tenth off her prelim swim of 2:14.39. Ellen Stello of SHORE dropped more than three seconds from her morning swim to finish second in 2:15.60, while Nasa Wildcat Aquatics\u2019 Azra Avdic swam away with third place honors in 2:16.48. Wisconsin Aquatics\u2019 Nicholas Caldwell dominated the men\u2019s 200 fly final, just missing breaking the 2:00 mark with a final time of 2:00.60, which broke the previous pool record. Minnesota Aquatics\u2019 Nickolaus Orf got to the wall second in 2:02.62, while Harrison Tran of Wisconsin Aquatics touched third in 2:04.09.<\/p>\n

Timed finals of the women\u2019s and men\u2019s 800 free were also held today. Kirsten Jacobsen of Barrington Swim Club topped the women\u2019s field in 8:46.55, a nine second drop from her personal best and a new pool record. Ruby Martin of the host Iowa Flyers came in second in 8:49.09, an almost 20 second drop from her best time. Morgan Dickson of Patriot Aquatic Club rounded out the top three in 8:50.40. Nicholas Caldwell of Wisconsin Aquatics earned his second win and second pool record of the day in the men\u2019s event, stopping the clock in 8:18.82, well ahead of teammate Sean Maloney (8:23.10). Travis Thompson made it a 1-2-3 sweep for Wisconsin with a third place effort of 8:25.02.<\/p>\n
