Because I\u2019ve been through it and it will send you round and round and round if you try and force it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So too does he see parallels between himself and Phelps.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cObviously Michael Phelps had so many other things going on between those Olympic Games \u2013 seeking other things and trying to do other things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut my journey is very similar in that way that you almost feel like there\u2019s a void, especially post-Tokyo &#8211; I\u2019ve done it twice now, have I got enough in me to go for a third?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the time yes and then life deals its cards: I broke my foot, came back even harder and burnt out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had my own cards dealt and trying to come through those and trying to come through being a dad at the same time and all those other things going on in my life that I am finally at peace with but it\u2019s cost a lot to get here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a sense I was willing to pay that cost but I\u2019m excited to see what we can do.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>The Loneliness Of The Pioneer<\/h3>\n<p>Peaty\u2019s tribulations have been well documented.<\/p>\n<p>His 2022 was marked by upheaval. We wanted a couple of training sessions that were just for a couple of months out of the way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA school that let us swim in their little pool, just anybody I knew &#8211; let\u2019s get some different environments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople just opened their doors and opened their hearts to help us through what it was and it was a really quite uplifting space, an uplifting time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the pools was 25 metres and had a greenhouse roof and it was me and him and just being quiet and swimming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a hard time but there was so much love out there for him. \u2018We want you to do well, we\u2019re here for you Adam.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was a bit of a rebirthing of him and a humbling experience really.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To Peaty it came down to either retiring or returning to competition with an approach that was healthier for his mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old didn&#8217;t want to live with any regrets or ask himself, \u201cWhat if?\u201d further down the road, a question all-consuming in its destruction and self-blame.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of his return in 2023, he told Swimming World:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA lot of people in the sport\u2014because it isn\u2019t kind to older athletes in so many ways\u2014they hang it up, and that\u2019s their legacy done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut for me, it just didn\u2019t sit right that I would have done that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think the pain of losing is nothing compared to the pain of regret, so for me I\u2019ve got to accept that challenge, and I\u2019m working really hard in and out of the pool to facilitate that.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Heading To Paris Atop The Rankings<\/h3>\n<p>And accept the challenge he did.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty returned to competition at the Berlin stop of the World Cup tour in October last year and in February won 100m bronze at the Doha worlds.<\/p>\n<p>At the British trials in April, Peaty posted his fastest time since Tokyo in 57.94, the only man through the 58 barrier in 2024 ahead of <strong>Qin Haiyang<\/strong> and his 58.24.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_583320\" style=\"width: 299px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-583320\" data-attachment-id=\"583320\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/great-britain-relay-analysis-four-teams-head-to-paris-as-medal-favorites\/ap-1\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/AP-1-scaled.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"2560,1707\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.8&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;Canon EOS R3&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1712061278&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;400&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;3200&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.0008&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"AP 1\" data-image-description=\"&lt;p&gt;4-20-24 &#038;
