GIMCHEON, South Korea, July 17. OLYMPIC gold medalist Tae Hwan Park proved that his foray into the IMs isn’t just a fluke as he powered past the Korean record in the men’s 200-meter IM at the South Korean Nationals tonight.<\/p>\n

Park raced his way to a 2:00.31 for the win. That time erased the 2:00.41 set by Kim Min-Gyu at the East Asian Games back in 2009. That’s a significant finish for Park as he looks to expand his program away from just his freestyles, which had been dominant in the region before China’s Sun Yang came along and started smashing world records with regularity.<\/p>\n

Once Park likely sets up a full boat of events at Asian Games that will including the 200 and 400 IM, it will be interesting to see which events Park finally decides to actually take part in at the meet that will take place in Incheon.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Bak Seong Wan won the men’s 100-meter back in a meet-record 55.20, while Kim Ji Hyun finished the women’s 100-meter back in 1:02.33 for the win. Additionally, Choe Hyu Ra snagged the women’s 200-meter IM title in 2:14.45 for a meet record in that event as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
