GRESHAM, Oregon, July 16. TUALATIN Hills took over the combined team lead tonight at the Speedo Western Sectional Championships in Gresham, Ore., thanks to wins by Cassidy Brennan, Michelle Cefal and the women\u2019s 200 medley relay team. Tualatin Hills has 208 points, 10 ahead of the University of Denver Hilltoppers (198) and Aces Swim Club (176).<\/p>\n
In the first event of the night, Hawaiian Jasmine Alkhaldi posted a one-tenth victory in the women\u2019s 100 free, touching out Tacoma Swim Club\u2019s Emma Chard, 56.82 to 56.92. Scottsdale\u2019s Taylor Ruck finished right behind in third in 56.94. As expected, Daryl Turner of Aces Swim Club won the men\u2019s race by a sizeable margin, blowing by the field to win in 50.59. RallySport Aquatic Club\u2019s William Van Dehy beat out several others for second with a 51.84, just ahead of Phoenix Swim Club\u2019s Ryan McCoy (51.91) and Flatiron Athletic Club\u2019s Miles MacKenzie (51.93).<\/p>\n
Robin Pinger of Oregon City Swim Team captured the women\u2019s 200 breast title, dropping more than four seconds from her prelim time with a 2:35.86. Ashley Grijalva of Rio Salado Swim Club also sliced four seconds from her morning swim to take second in 2:36.70, while 13-year-old Zoe Bartel of Fort Collins Area Swim Team placed third in 2:38.28. Aces Swim Club got its second win of the night, this time from John Bushman in the men\u2019s 200 breast. Bushman just out-touched Arizona Marlins\u2019 Matthew Anderson for the win, 2:18.10 to 2:18.28. Ty Dang of Arizona Gold Swimming rounded out the top three in 2:20.30.<\/p>\n
The women\u2019s 200 back final turned out to be a battle between a couple of teenagers, with 15-year-old Cassidy Brennan of Tualatin Hills winning the event in 2:15.19, less than half a second in front of Tri City Channel Cats\u2019 Lisa Bratton (2:15.62). Hannah Leach of Missoula Aquatic Club emerged from a tightly grouped bunch to take third in 2:16.66. Carter Griffin of the DU Hilltoppers put on a backstroke clinic in the men\u2019s race, cracking the 2:00 barrier for the first time with a 1:59.39, five seconds ahead of Lake Oswego\u2019s Curtis Klein, who touched in 2:04.28. Joseph Notarianni of Foothills Swim Team rounded out the top three in 2:06.69.<\/p>\n
Tualatin Hills\u2019 Michelle Cefal earned a half-second win in the women\u2019s 200 fly over Jeffco Hurricanes\u2019 Erin Metzger-Seymour, 2:15.04 to 2:15.62, with Bellevue Club\u2019s Kimberly Williams in third at 2:16.88. Colorado swimmers claimed the top three spots in the men\u2019s 200 fly final, led by Jeffco Hurricanes\u2019 Andrew Torres, who broke 2:00 for the first time ever with a 1:58.94. Andrew Hartbarger of Aces Swim Club finished second in 2:01.50, followed by DU Hilltopper Reed Matthews in 2:01.96.<\/p>\n
Tualatin Hills\u2019 quartet of Grace Carlson, Prudence Rooker, Michelle Cefal and Keaton Blovad had the best time in the women\u2019s 200 medley relay at 1:58.27. Samantha Wicks, Heather Harper, Jessica Bottelberghe and Sydney Johansen claimed second place honors with a 1:58.67, while Bridgette McNally, Cristina Bassani, Grace Sommerville and Zoe Huddleston gave the DU Hilltoppers a third place finish in 1:59.82. Meanwhile, the DU Hilltoppers won the men\u2019s relay in 1:43.93, thanks to Carter Griffin, Michael McCormick, Clarence Guillory and Kyle Robrock. Aces Swim Club touched second with Daryl Turner, John Bushman, Andrew Hartbarger and Jake Markham posting a 1:46.28. Tucson Ford Dealers\u2019 Hunter Thompson, Zachary Hojnacki, Jarl Brynnel and Kenneth Cashion rounded out the top three in 1:47.10.<\/p>\n
